V8S problem...

Hi, my V8S has developed a problem. I'm a mechanical numpty, so please bear with me! About 2 months ago, she started to run a little 'lumpy', there was a lag of power (not unlike a very delayed turbo lag) followed by a terrific surge (at least that was fun!). Then, the Friday before London Thunder she refuesed to start.

A mechanic friend came over, we changed all the plugs and the right hand bank of cylinders appeared to be over fuelling (jets of petrol rather than a spray). I tried her again ear;ier this week, she started fine and ran well with just a little misfire.

I tried her again today, drove about 5 miles, couldn't re-start her and got the AA out who did a fine job starting her up.

Any suggestions as to what might be wrong? Many thanks in advance, Dave

Were the left bank ok, or were they doing the same????

Hi, the left hand bank wasn't squirting jets of fuel like the right, in fact there was very little (I think each should have had a fine spray?). Cheers, Dave

Since you don't have the expertise to sort this out yourself, I suggest you get an expert to sort it out for you. People who do it for a living should have no trouble sorting out a minor problem like this, and it may not cost very much. but trying to solve it yourself by guesswork, even with the power of Pistonheads behind you, is likely to be a long and painful experience and you will waste a lot of time and money along the way. You also stand a fair chance of damaging other things while you're looking. Take it in to be serviced, describe the problem, and ask them to sort it out while they have it.

Peter, thanks for that. I certainly don't have the ability to sort it myself! I really was after some indication of what the problem is, and if it's a serious (expensive) thing or not. It sounds like you think it is fairly inexpebnsive to sort out so that's good. Thanks for the advice, Dave
