I will be taking the S again, and with my new clutch at least I wont have to worry all the way (with AA card in hand!)

Also working out the best route, I went Dover - Calais last year, but it is a really long drive the other side, so am looking at alternatives such as Le Havre, although they seem expensive

Is anyone here going? What are the best options for ferries?

Not going to LM this year - I'd like to go EVERY year but there are so many other things to do that I usually go every other year. Am trying to get to Spa this year to watch something though....

Whenever I've gone to LM in the S I've got to Caen from Portsmouth - easy uncrowded drive down with plenty of "real" villages to stop at on the country roads (no motorway until close to LM). Calais route was fine when I had the Chimaera though.

Maybe worth posting / searching the LM forum cos there's usually plenty of alternative routes to be found there

I'd always opt for Calais myself, but for me the drive is part of the journey, generally I've always cut down South as soon as possible, and used D roads, taking a route that takes us around halfway between Paris and Rouen. This was you go through some stunning villages, can have some great tuck and have the joy of being given the French coffee-bean shake when a group of cars goes through a village a school chuckout time.

On the Dover to Calais/Boulogne stretch I'd say EuroTunnel is best, but expensive - I've used SpeedFerries for our group the last two years and that works out very well priced, at just £54 per car for group members.

Not sure if I'm going or not yet, I've booked myself a place, but may or may not make use of it depending on what else is happening this year.

I've always gone for Dover Calais as I hate ferries, last year we did Dover - Dunkirk with Norfolk Line, I can't remember how much but it was dirt cheap and I didn't book early.
This year we are going Portsmouth - Le Havre or Caen as we're getting too old for the longer drive down and we got pissed off last year waiting an a hour and a half in the queue for petrol.

You could try Newhaven - Dieppe. Not as expensive as the Caen crossing when I used it last summer but not too much further North. You can stop off at the old Rouen circuit on the way South too - well worth a visit.

I have every intention of going this year. looking at the wonder web yesterday you can get a crossing from Dover to Dunkirk for £38 return on Norfolk Line!!! How good is that. It does mean a 5 and a bit hour drive the other side.

I have always done Portsmouth Cherbourg in the past but thats still a 3 and a bit hour drive the other side. For a saving of about £350 I think I'll do more driving this year.
