Okay a bit brief.
First assuming the car hasn't been re registered!
E and some F are S1 with 2.8 Fords
F/G/H have 2.9 and are S2
(but big change over period!)
H/J/K are the S3 with bigger doors
S3c have Cats and Driving lights as well.
S4 don't have a bonnet air scope, but side vents and are wider, possibly, that's Ted's, the site's owner's you quoted.

However this was all ten years ago and anything may have changed since them.

If you want to know more then see the rest of Ted's words on the S1,2,3,3c,V8S. Then get along to the TVR Car Club www.tvrcc.com and phone the office and get a copy of Steve Heath's S book (S Bible v2), see www.tvrbooks.co.uk

I wouldn't guarantee it - my S3 is listed on the registration document as a 290S.

P.S. No need to SHOUT!

P.P.S. I reckon checking the position of the battery or the presense of rear discs would be the best way to determine whether it's an S4 (assuming it hasn't got a V8 under the bonnet ). The wider track would be difficult to determine, and the other detail differences can be found on some S3s, either as original fit (e.g. mirrors, bonnet) or as a later add-on (e.g. ally roof struts).

Good luck!

Is it an E reg, or has the number plate been changed? (to a personal plate that happens to begin with an E).

Check the V5 - what's the date of registration?
