S2 Alternator.

Hi guys.
My alternator is rumbling a bit and think the brushes are getting worn.
13.9 volts is the high rather than 14.4 recommended.
Not much joy jetting replacement brushes locally but someone might know who to call?
Tried several Exchange Alternator places on the www and they are coming in at £100 + VAT + Delivery + £50 deposit. bit steep!
Parts list says Lucas LRA 125. Can anyone confirm or put me onto a cheaper reconditioner/exchange place please?

What about the local Halfrauds OR your local motor factors? Did mine about 4 years ago on the V8S (bigger alternator?) and I paid about £75 exchange and promised to return the old one as soon as.
Had to change the pulley wheel over which was a bit of a sod - but nothing that a bit of scaffold tube as an extension to the socket couldn't handle.

Out of interest I have a brand new Lucas Alternator CA178H for a Landrover S2 2.5 Diesel,as I have the bonnet off I had a quick side by side and the dimensions seem the same but these cost £35-40 exchange.May be an option for the future and could do away with the bloody stupid no charge initially below 2500k RPM set up.I havent tried it but I cant see why the connections couldnt be adapted 2 Large Spade conectors + 1 original Small would appear to be all the mods needed for the Lucas unit. Anyone done it before??? or any thoughts???? I'm not sure why the Bosch unit connects on the stud and not the spade terminals???.
