Hi all, got my wheels delivered back from BJV Engineering. Collected them from work on Tuesday stripped them back and powder coated them 'sparkley silver', I do have to say they look the mutts n*ts!

All in all, a great bit of service by BJV from enquiry through to getting the goods back...

Just got to think of an excuse to leave work early and get them on the car!!! any suggestions?

Hi shozz, company are based in Hemel Hempstead but have a van that does routes to about 40 miles from there (boringstoke just about in their range!!!). Their web site is www.wheelrefurbishing.co.uk

Will post pics as soon as I can a) get them on the car and b) work out how to get pics on the web...

Shnozz - RichardR used them pics on his profile. He went for a different finish to the original though (again, reasons on profile).

Ended up getting DB to do mine... THINK they went to spit & polish, as per Ted's. Result is ASTOUNDING... probably better than when they left the factory! I'll post some before and after pics this weekend... and fully update my profile - full costings, pics etc...

I dropped in to Lepsons yesterday & I've decided on the "sparkly silver" finish too. They showed me some wheels in that had been finished & they looked better than new. price quoted was £40 + VAT per wheel & 5 day turn round. They do a same day service for £50 + VAT.
I asked about keeping the original polished finish but the guy was convinced that it wouldn't last & said that he wouldn't give any guarantee with it.

Mike,

I bet your wheels look the business. I was really pleased when I got mine back from BJV (as Podie said, close-up pics on my car profile), and they still look as good as the day they came back (last September), despite everyday use throughout the winter. I've noticed that the depth of the rims means they seem to accumulate quite a lot of grime - don't know if the powder coating accentuates this, or whether I just didn't notice it before because of the state of the wheels.

I kept the factory-fit brake dust guards behind the wheels when I refitted them. They don't seem to have any detrimental effect on braking (haven't tried any track days), and I don't get any of that nasty dust build-up on the wheels.

Hope you get them back on the car soon!

you are not driving the car hard enough then

wasnt sure if the finish Mike has gone for was the same as yours. i wanted to stick with the shiny original look finish if possible but didnt know if mikes was some sort of mid-way compromise.

Got mine done for £30 a wheel including taking off tyre, valves, balance etc etc. If you do that bit yourself its £20 a go! Not bad with free delivery/collection...

Interesting viewpoint

If you want to stick with the original finish, BJV will do a diamond cut and lacquer, but there are downsides to this (details in my profile). I think (from memory) it was the 'sparkly silver' finish I went for as well - it'll be interesting to compare them when Mike gets a picture posted.

Had my wheels done by David Batty in the original finish...

BEFORE

AFTER

Not cheap mind at £192.00 - inc VAT, new valves and wheel balancing. Still well chuffed with the result!

EDIT - according to the chart at David Batty's, they should be torqued to 74ft lbs...

On the subject of wheels, I tried to buy some new wheel nuts to freshen up the car. I only need 12 because I have locking nuts. Popped into a local motor factors and they nice shiney replacement. He then tries to charge me £48 for the set
I must be able to get a better deal than this..
Any suggestions?

They look fantastic! You must be well chuffed!

I do love the polished finish with the black inserts. I just felt that if I'd gone for that option, I wouldn't be able to guarantee keeping them in mint condition. However, one of the advantages of the powder coating is that I can go back to the diamond cut finish at some point in the future if I want. There's obviously a limited number of times you can get them diamond cut, and if I'd gone for the finish this time and let it slip, I may not have been able to have it again (have I said this before )
