S2 Distributor Cap

Having broken down in the middle of nowhere I thought that the fuel pump had gone again. However having checked that out it was ok. There was no spark at the plugs. I took the dist cap off and found that the bit that makes contact between the centre lead and the rotor arm was missing. I later found it under the rotor arm. Upshot is does any know the part number for the dist cap. Everywhere I look it lists the S3C. Is it the same.

Two different ditributors fitted to the 2.9 engine - Motorcraft and Bosch,

Motorcraft one has male lead connectors - ie they look like moulded-in spark plugs so the plug leads have the same type of connector on each end.

Bosch is more "traditional" fitment - has female connector that plug lead fits into.

The Motorcraft ones are grey, bosch ones are orange/brown. The two caps are not interchangeable (so I was told). I can get the motorcraft part number later, the old one is still in the box in my shed for some reason.

I ended up ordering a new Motorcraft one from my friendly Ford dealer - it took him ages to get it in and when it arrived it was still the wrong (female) one - wait another fortnight till he got the right one.

It is the grey Motorcraft type. Although there are no markings on the cap the rotor arm has a Motorcraft part number.
