glassing door nuts

dicided to tackle the slightly droopy doors on my s3. looks like the nut that is glassed into the body for the bottom hinge has come loose. now, do i try and glass it back in again or has anyone tried to fit a more substantial pivot??

I did manage to reglass the lower nut on mine about 14 months ago. It was a terrible job to do - I described it in a thread early last year. I toyed with the idea of fabricating a more robust solution eg a nut welded to a plate which is then bolted inside the sill with, say, six bolts to spread the load. Trouble is that those bolts would need to be countersunk into the top surface of the sill (easily done, but may not leave enough strength to stop them pulling out)and getting a smooth surface inside the sill for the plate to sit against would be as difficult as glassing in a new nut. So I did the latter and so far so good. I got the new nut (more of a threaded bush actually) and hinge bits from David Gerald.

thanks mick
was trying to work out something with plates myself, the glassed bobbin idea never seemed that strong. having a look at the weekend and a play about with some hinge ideas so will post if anything works out. its the clearance under the door at the hinge thats the problem so will see.
