turbo technics S1

I run an S1 with the 2.8i mfi capri engine, i've just come across a complete 2.8i v6 colonge engine from the xr4i with an orginial turbo technics conversion 200+bhp. i believe this should be a straight swap although nothing in life is every straight forward. the plan is to have the engine checked over if everything is ok drop it straight in. i think the only problems should be placeing the rather larger intercooler and custom making downpipes. anyone got any advise before i fall into a pit of doom?

I would have a serious think about the underbonnet temperatures with a turbo. Remember that with a GRP bonnet there will be a lot of heat trapped there.
I'm no engineer, so cannot suggest solutions unfortunately - maybe someone else can.....

I believe you may have to play with the exhaust manifolds, the standard setup is too wide for the engine bay.

Heat will be another issue. You may have to think about vents in the bonnet, I have seen a TVR bonnet with the inside top part of the lip ground away and replace with mesh this allowed more heat to escape.

Use the members directory and drop M@H a line... he was tinkering with turbos on his S a few years back. Don't think he ever installed them, but he's a mine of information.

Might also be worth looking up BoostedLS1 on these forums too... he knows a little about engines. In fact seem to recall he did the engine in Ceejay's turbo Tasmin racer...

I don't see any reason why it should pose such a great problem. My Wedge turbo seems to work VERY well, temprature is never a problem 90 degrees when poodling aroung 93 degrees if your having fun. 200 BHP is a standard TT conversion, a reliable and a usefull increase in power, should you pass the magic (tragic) 6 PSI of boost you will be seriously risking your standard pistons, this will equate to about 220/230 BHP on a std. lump. You can produce over 280/300 BHP without trying to hard but certain mods will be required. Oh and watch your rods 6 K as std MAX of 6.5K if shot peened.
