Intermittant Starting Problem

Strange thing has happened...on a couple of occasions I have started the car and it runs very lumpy, almost as if it is only firing on a couple of cylinders and then it cuts out after approx 5 seconds. After two or three more attempts it suddenly starts no problem as if nothing had happened!
After getting it to start, it drives fine with no apparent issues

Any ideas, I am thinking it may be the fuel pump sticking?

Your symptoms are exactly what I got when restarting the car after draining and refilling the petrol tank (which I have done a few times lately - but that is another story!) I thought the fuel pump would prime the system almost as soon as it was switched on but it usually took 3 or 4 attempts to get it up and running properly.
Not sure how this could help you though because presumably you have not got air in the fuel pump inlet pipe (which is what I guess I had even after filling the tank).

I have half a tank of fuel and haven't run anywhere near empty, so not sure if it's the same thing. It happened yesterday after a long run out?

i would test the usual things if you can recreate symptons

disconnect TP

Disconnect each air flow meter

also may be worth cleaning idle speed valve



managed to sort out my cutting out by cleaning all the above so hopefully no cutting out in front of you on the way to S club

similar probs, AA tracked it down to the coil (£30) off the back of the AA van, sorted
