Hi all,

I've been reading this forum for ages and have now decided to say farwell to the trusty Calibra and get an S3.

I've got Rob Ingleby doing to hunting as I like to idea of having an expert source one for me for all the obvious reasons. I've read everying I can about the car and bought the 'bible'.

I commute via train to work so only need a car for evenings/weekends.

I will be parking it in a private car-park but don't have a garage. I'll buy a cover though.

I think I'm really looking for a few posts of encouragement that I'm doing the right thing! Perhaps all TVR 'owners to be' go through this.

I've even got the wife to agree to a driving holiday around Scotland when the car arrives!

YOU ARE DOING THE RIGHT THING!!!

I will point out though that if you are going on a very long journey, you might want to get the wife some ear plugs!! My wife gets a headache after a while listening to the exhaust on my S2, Dunno why, I love it!

P3 - This will be the best 'car change' you've made. Think about the pleasure from the looks, badge, sound, performance, rarity, head turning power, and overall fun...

Say no more
Cheers

do it. still love mine to bits. had the same nerves and was between an S3 (with my heart) and an Alfa Spider (not sure what that was with). Went to an S3 meet in 2001 at VW (the original S Club Heaven) and that scared me off more to be honest. Spoke to a few owners, who were very friendly, but hearing about the maintenance they performed themselves and my lack of knowledge I really thought i would have to give up on the idea. Anyway, not quite sure why but i perservered and ended up viewing one in fernhursts that I fell in love with. That didnt turn out to be the one but i took the "lifes too short" cavalier attitude and went into ownership 2 feet first. Knew jack about mechanics or electrics and a mixture of willing and a lack of a TVR garage on my doorstep has seen me undertake some basic jobs and some not so basic (although I still ask this lot some daft questions )

I am now in a position where I have £10k sat in the bank wanting to be spent. I have thought about a Chimaera, and I have thought about a Griff. But I have sort of become a little attached to the S and not sure if i want to trade her in just yet.

Rob sourced my S3 for me back in Feb and I haven't got rid of the stupid grin yet!! If you've got the wife to agree, you've already got over the main hurdle so just DO IT !!

Mine is kept on the driveway as I don't have a garage and I haven't yet got a cover and I've had no problems yet. Driving the S3 is the most fun I've had with my clothes on - yes I may have led a sheltered life - and Rob will make sure you get a good one. Good luck.

Definite thumbs up here!

I use mine as my everyday car, including long motorway commutes to visit clients, and haven't had any real problems so far :toucheswood: (my wife's modern reliable Rover has refused to start twice in the time I've had the S - about 10 months now!). You'll feel special every journey you make!

One word of warning though, if you're shy and retiring you should maybe look elsewhere. It takes a while to get used to complete strangers striking up a conversation with you, and just this morning a guy walking along the pavement while I was waiting at a crossing said "nice car mate", whilst the kids who'd just gone over the crossing made their Mums wait so they could watch as I drove off! Just don't expect to blend/bland into the background!

I`ve just been really busy at work (i work at home) and havent found the time to swap computers over to update the site. I will have to give myself a kick up the rear and get something done. I cant understand why Rich aint getting the ro emails, unless hes changed his email address and not told me so the ro emails are being redirected to the wrong email address. Hmm, have to look into that one.

Roy.

I bought mine in November... had a bit of work to do on it.. worry about the damn thing constantly (will it fall apart / blow up / overheat / etc) but it's been fine so far...!

Still, all that goes as soon as you start the engine... and like all the other posters here... I too have the idiotic grin... even looking at the damn thing makes me smile...

Oh yes!

I haven't had a chance to use mine for a week (a whole week!) but had a walk-round tonight just to enjoy those lines...

I was driving along in my company car today & saw a purple griff... most displeased that he couldn't recognise me as one of US instead of one of THEM!

Thanks for all your replies. I was expecting positive feedback but this was something else

Consider me totally comitted to my new motor. I'm waiting with baited breath to see what Rob comes up with...

(I've even discovered that the local club meet is only 10 minutes drive away -or 5 in a TVR!)

More like 50 minutes away.. Live 10 minutes down the road from Tankersley and it took me over an hour to get to Pie 5.. got diverted..

Buy one, you'll not regret it..

You might worry about bits falling off, or about strange electrical gremlins, but it will all be worth it..

Got mine a few weeks ago. Welcome to 'Grin Driving'

Just a word of advice, although Rob provides a service which has a good reputation, I would suggest you get it up on a ramp before parting with your hard earned. Rob checcked my car over and missed some large holes in the outriggers, which would have only been seen when up on a ramp.

Don't let me put you off though, I still love the car!
