Engine air in-take hose.

Was messing around under the bonnet again and was looking at the in-take hose from the air filter.

The 'standard' is a rubber corrugated type hose, is there any performance benefit in this or would you notice any gains if the pipes were a smooth bore? i.e. replaced with ally/stainless or similar.

Also - what about insulating these? - obviously you want the combustion air to be nice and cool/dense.

Been thinking along the same lines recently. I've been slowly cleaning up under the bonnet and those black corrugated pipes are letting the side down. I guess smooth bore might have a tiny performance benefit though I suspect it will mostly be a cosmetic addition.

Interested to hear other peoples ideas/solutions....

I got a relatively high bhp gain when i changed to smooth bore,ok only 5 bhp but it only cost a few quid

What pipe did you use pies? Ally or rubber/plastic??
