Body lift - leave the petrol tank or remove it?

Slowly removing/disconnecting everything for the dreaded body lift - previous threads have been a great help!

The question I have is am I better off leaving the petrol tank in or should I take it out as I already have the car up in the air?

Does it make much difference to the way you remove the body?

Hello Woody,
I removed the tank but I don't think that, as far is just lifting the body is concerned, It would be a problem to just leave it on. As long as the jubileeclip is removed from the fillerneck. If I picture the body moving, the rear goes up and to the back it wouldn't faul anything. You then don't even have to disconnect the two hoses to the tank.

Left mine in. The back lifts up and out fairly easily, you just need to get the height to clear the top shock absorber mounting points.

My car is at the garage at the moment.
They lifted the body leaving the petrol tank in.
The tank was then removed for two reasons.
One ~ it had a hole in it (and the cradle needed repairing)
Two~ they felt more confident welding the outriggers with the tank well out of the way.

It should be back early next week. I can't wait.
I never thought that I would miss being away from a car so much.

tank wasnt a problem in when i done mine but the boot stay bolt/nut caught it on the lift so i had to remove that first. might have just been a long bolt?

I left the petrol tank in place with no problem. As Kev S3 says make sure you take the boot lid strut off first as it will get in the way.

As it doesn't seem to make much difference I'll see how I go getting the rest of the stuff off!
