Help! - my knobs stuck......

Trying to disconnect al that needs disconnecting before the body lift and have hit a slight erm snag!
Try as I might I can't shift the gear knob - I've tried twisting, pulling and even Clarkson style swearing
and it won't shift. 
I've had a look for any obvious grub screws/allan bolts etc but can't see anything.
And I also realised that this is the first time I've tried to take the damn thing of in the 7 years I've ownewd it!!
Any suggestions greatly received.
Oh - also looked for the 2 bolts under the console - my S3 don't appear to have any!

If it is the standard Ford Sierra knob then it unscrews.
If it's an after market knob then they often have a collar at the bottom that needs unscrewing and then under that you'll have grub screws.
It is surprising how such a simple task can slow you down when you aren't 100% sure how it comes apart and don't want to break it.

Well hidden and may be camoflaged with rust! They are tucked away under the hoses for the eyeball vents, easy enough to get out once you find them.Gear knob on mine was held with grubscrews, there's also nylon collar on the gearstick itself and it was a pretty firm press fit on that. Took a fair bit of twisting/pulling to remove it.

found the 2 bolts hidden under the vent pipes - got a spanner on 'em and whipped 'em out while I was there.Still can't get 'me knob off - had a closer look and it looks like some muppet's araldited the bugger on
Unsure of how much force to apply before I bugger the gear lever/selector.
All I have left to do now is disconnect the handbrake, brakes, clutch, throttle cable, engine bay wiring, erm yeah OK, still a bit to do then!!

Do you absolutely have to take the knob off Chris ? there looks like plenty of space through the bodywork. Is it so you can slip the rubber seal over the end of the stick ? if so and its not a precious/valuable/sentimental value item then I would cut it off with a dremel and a cutting disc if I were you rather than twisting it all over the shop as I reckon araldite will be a bugger to overcome.

Had a look and the hole in the body work looks big enough - but it means that I can't get the leatherette gaiter or the rubber gaiter off - and with grinding/cutting/welding the chassis etc its a bit of a pain.good luck anyway

The knob (oh er) has no sentimental value - its a wooden one to match the wheel - and as I'm ditching the wooden wheel I was gonna change it.
Might go the dremmel surgical route!

On mine the leather gaiter was simply tucked in under the trim and came out easily. The rubber gaiter below was rivetted in at six points but these were easily removed.(my rubber gaiter was split to buggery so I had to replace it). If you did that then the whole lot would just be hanging from your knob when you lifted the body, ready to fix back in again on re-assembly... worth thinking about if you wanted to retain the existing knob and gaiter.

I was very careful to avoid any double entents Graham... I was gutted to miss another meet and the run to Kielder afterwards as i still have no sparks. see other thread ref duff coil. I'm expecting a new one delivered any time now and hope its a straight substitution and away I go... if its not the coil then I'm at a loss for now... talk of amplifiers and ECU problems scare the brownstuff out of grease monkeys like me.Cheers

I'm gutted to have missed the last couple of meetings and really sorry I still haven't had chance to see your 'new' motor Kev. Too many people are having stag parties and getting married and stuff which is interfering with my weekends 
I will probably be driving along the A69 back to Cumbria in a couple of weeks, so I might give you a buzz nearer the time to see if you're around. Unfortunately I'll be missing the next TVRCC meeting 'cos I'm in Denmark all weekend. But... I think there is a run to Scotland on 15th July if I'm not mistaken? Hopefully Paul will keep us all up to date.
