Discussion
some time ago there was some discussion on retrimming the dreaded sagging seats. I've just had mine done. Just to let you know that Preston Car Trim, 01772 251212 is a guy who knows what he is doing, booked them for two days and kept to it, and charged me a very fair price. I asked him to source the material (turned out to be Jaguar spec Ambla and he matched it)and to replace only as necessary. About 40% was replaced. He is genuinely interested in classics and has said that he could do this type of work by mail.
Mine is an S1, I am not sure if the seat structure is quite the same on later cars. One big issue was to rebuild the seat base frame, which was wire and completely rotted. In discussion with this trimmer we came up with a different solution using a stainless steel 'diaphragm'. I have taken a couple of pics. Seats arent back in the car yet but the solution does seem to work.

The chaps over on the Chim forum came up with interesting solutions for sagging seats:

Thanks Spludge, hadnt seen that before. Didnt have any recycled green fencing to hand so went for a more permanent solution! Hope the pic shows the method OK. The centre section of foam was in a bad way, almost cut through by the rusty wires, so a new piece of seating foam was added, bought that for a couple of £ from a local supplier. The seat covers were rebuilt for £165 including all material. The one problem I still have is that several of the springs were in a bad way on the drivers side. Modern cars do not use them, or at least I havent found any on the breakers, and I have tried several specialist spring suppliers without success. I wonder what the original source was? I have found Rovers in the early 90's have a similar construction and similar springs but they are not a direct replacement although I think I could make it work. http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa102/greymrj/1...
