Help - I can't open my boot!!

Morning all,

After having owned my new S2 for 2 weeks and only driven it on the afternoon I got it I was determined yesterday to take it out come rain or shine. Because, unsurprisingly, the weather looked "showery" at best I thought it a wise move to put the roof in the boot - only problem was I couldn't get the boot open!

The cable feels tight and I can hear the mechanism clicking, but it doesn't appear to be moving enough to release the catch.

Anyone got any ideas?

And to make it worse, by the time I'd finished trying to get the boot open it was tipping down so I ended up not going out for a drive

Try releasing it as you do a tight turn - the roof may be stuck against it...

Get someone to press down on the lid (above the catch) while the release lever is operated. If that doesn't work, email me and I'll tell you how to get in.

Thanks for the suggestion, but the roof isn't in the boot, it's on the car.

Only the spare wheel Podie, and I haven't moved the car since making sure it was securely fixed in place a couple of weeks ago.

Got any speakers in the rear?
If so could you remove one and reach inside ??

Might be a good time to cut a hole for one if you get really desperate !

No rear speakers Chris, although this might be an idea to think about. Only problem is the roll bar and the cross members would mean I'd either need to remove it (connected to chassis ) or find a slender soviet gymnast who'll be able to squeeze through.......

I think it is moving cos I can hear a click when my ear is on the bootlid, but either it's not moving enough or the mechanism is knackered. I'm confident that the cable is ok though.

I thought there was a 'secret' way in but not sure of this only applied to the electrically activated boot lids.

Yep, tried that Chris, but no joy so assume it's only applicable to the later electronic mechanisms.

No, there is a method for S1 & S2 cable-operated boot release.

Got an angle grinder in the garage

If its anything like the bonnet catch on a TR6 then you'll need more than a Russian Gymnast . Took me four hours and a lot of swearing to release my bonnet a few years back .

Mike, if I turn up at your house tonight in the rain with the roof off you know that I've not managed to fix it and I'm after your angle grinder. We've got 50 weeks to get it sorted for Le Mans 08!!

Had the same probs with mine last week, only my roof was IN the boot and it was ping down at the time. My boot is electronically operated but I did find a way in with a long thin screw driver VERY CAREFULLY I hasten to add. Turned out the roof had nudged the hydraulic arm off its mounting hense the boot lid not coming up. Simple to fix, even if I did have to ask the boys on here for some help.

Thanks to Roy's help problem was sorted in minutes. Looks like the Russian gymnast and rear speakers will have to wait a bit longer

Still not been able to get the car out due to last nights thunderstorms so spent the evening on my hands and knees polishing wheels.....

Mike, if you do end up getting a Tiger I'd better make sure my boot remains in working order cos my little old S will be the "practical" luggage carrier
