S2 steering problems and squeaking

I have been having a range of problems with the steering and suspension on my S2. I replaced an upper ball joint on the front suspension and this, initially, appeared to cure the problem. Unfortunately all is still not well: The car still wanders at high speed and the steering still doesn't feel as direct as it once was.

I'm not sure if it's connected but the car has begun to make a squeaking noise when on rough surfaces or bumps. I'm having real difficult working out where the noise is coming from as neither pushing, pulling and bouncing the suspension makes the same noise when the car is stationary. If I had to guess, I would say it was from the back of the car - but I could well be wrong.

Anyone have any idea of the two are linked or what the source of the squeaking might be? (I've checked all the obvious stuff on the steering - bulkhead bearing - UJ's etc and all seems fine)

When I got my S2 there was some dreadful squeaking. It came from the plates in the bonnet for the catches. Silicon sealant sorted that.
