wet carpet and foot peddles after heavy rainfall

please help my v8 has started to let water in to the drivers side carpet after heavy rain fall ,i noticed the pedals were wet and then felt the carpet which was wet , the grommet under the carpet is in very good order , after the rain stopped i looked under the bonnet and was unable to spot were the water was entering from , has any one else had this problem and can you please advise me , thank you robbie

Could be either:

1. windscreen seal - water getting through between the screen and the body

2. Door seals - water passing the seal and running down the sill

3. Any of the holes for throttle cable, etc...

4. windscreen wiper spindles.

Unfortunately you just have to work through everything and check...

Check also the convoluted ducting from the bonnet intake. Mine has a joint between the bit on the switch panel air vent and the ducting from the front of the car. The joint is just above my right foot - As I found out on Saturday!!

Easiest way to do this is sit in the car while someone else goes round each possible area with a watering can. That way you'll stand a better chance of finding the problem than when actually driving in the rain! And don't rule out something in the least expected area - I know from experience that water can enter the car in one place then actually find it's own course and appear somewhere completely different.

You're absolutely correct.

Unfortunately that can mean that you water one bit, the water finds its way in, runs along a cable or a bracket, and then drips off somewhere else while you are watering another bit - thus throwing you in completely the wrong direction. I also know this from experience...

I ended up covering the carpets in newspaper and the door trims etc in talc, and then hosing the car down and watching for the first wet bits, and then tracing where the water was coming from and how it was getting there - even then it took two or three goes to find the culprit...

Sounds like the winscreen wiper arms to me. Mine did exactly the same.

Peel off the old sealant(don't attempt to put new onto old)where they meet the body work and re-apply, "should" solve it.

I used standard drain and gutter sealant because it was black.

I've just ordered a nice expensive storm proof cover for mine as it lives on my drive and I too noticed a wet patch in the foot well the other day. Hardly surprising really considering the awful weather we've had in my neck of the woods.

Surprised really it wasn't worse, least I can cover it over next time the heavens decide to empty a months worth of rain in 2hrs on us.

The cover's are a good idea, I've got the £29 from Argos that has kept one of mine completely dry in the latest weather, fits OK too.

Ok, so my nice storm proof cover has turned up ready for the next onslaught of rain and winter when it gets here (hopefully not for ages).

Now then, my ariel sticks up, guess its something I will have to just tolerate with the cover on as it obviously doesnt retract down, which means its going to get a tad bent with the cover on.

I assume there is no way round this, its not as if the radio works or anything which isnt a problem as the car provides its own sound system when I fire her up.

Can you enlighten me futher then, just so I know.

Just grab the lower part of the aerial and turn it anti clockwise.
If its been on for some time it may be very stiff (behave yourself!)

Examine it closely to see if it looks like it has a seperate base part, as I'm sure a million different types have been fitted. Better still post a pic !

Would it be better to lubricate it first before I handle it, just in case it is stiff

WD40 or something?

I don't reckon you will get lubricant anywhere useful if it is tightened up tight.
Just twist the bugger hard !

I'm sure if you ask a garage to have a quick look they will tell you if they think it comes off, or a car audio shop might know better by the type of aerial.
