Got the car Mot'd 
, and now it's time to renew the insurance. I am currently with RH Specialist Car Division on an Equity Red Star policy, and the renewal price is very competitive.
However, reading the small print reminds me that the policy does not cover loss or damage to the car and contents if it is left with the roof open, or if reasonable precautions have not been made to protect it.
The car has a cat 2 immobiliser fitted, so does that count as a "reasonable precaution".
It is a bit of a pain to put the roof on every time you park up in the summer (OK perhaps not this year !)
Is this common to many insurance plans, or just this one ?
Is it worth trawling other companies to see if I can better this?

Have a word with Hagerty they are TVR owners, good to talk to and helpful as well as being reasonable on the price - they also cover with the roof down and whilst on your drive etc and can agree values with emailled piccies and no extra charge to do that either.

I recently rang around 10 companies, and while all circumstances will be different for other drivers, Hagerty came out best by far. Like Jim said, I got it agreed value for no extra cost do, unlike my previous insurer. Hagerty are a huge company in the US, i think the biggest classic car insurer, and it looks as if they are trying to dominate the market here. Co-sponsored the silverstone classic and where at goodwood Festival this year. Really nice people to talk too and I know they have had a load of S series owners of late. Good Luck!
I gave Hagerty a ring. Their policy sounds good and the person I spoke to was very knowledgeble and helpful. They offered 5000 miles for £201, but if the car was not garaged then it rises to £399. Reducing the miles to 3000 got it down to £317 ungaraged.
Currently I have it on 5000 miles, ungaraged for £210 with RH Specialist Car Division. If it were in the garage, I would definately go with Hagerty. They don't require an immobiliser or alarm to be fitted, so my alarm and immobiliser does not help reduce my ungaraged quote.
Other benefits from Hagerty are agreed value, insured with the top down, and you can get your partner insured for no extra cost as long as they over 25 with no accidents (but don't tell the misses)
Still deciding who to go with this year.

I was just about to renew last years policy, but got tempted to give A-plan a ring. Spoke to a very nice man (no puns please) and he quoted me 5000 miles, driveway parking, insured with the roof off, no requirement for an approved alarm, etc for £197. I even got the girlfriend on the policy also 
at no extra cost. They also offer agreed value.
So I signed up with them, happy bunny. That advert at the top of the S-forum just got them a new customer.

That's cheep they quoted me £217 at Diamond Rock. Still better than my Mannings deal I have at the moment. (Chris have you got the number of the chap in Northampton that set your car up , can you mail it to me . Thanks ,Dale)

I'm very happy with Hagerty - easily the best quote by a mile and extremely pleasant people to deal with. I don't have a second car at present but they insured my S on the basis that I wouldn't use the car for commuting. Indeed it has been a long time, and I have no excuse as the George is just down the road. 5000 miles a year, your having a laugh, I barely managed to exceed 1000 last year.
The car needs a service, and a good run to clear the cobwebs from the exhaust.
When is the next George meet ? Is it every 3rd Sunday of the month, it's been so long i have forgotten. Catch up with you all soon.
