Ouch damaged bonnet.

As per the title really, a woman backed into the S today, cracking the bonnet by the number plate repair job or new bonnet? I`ll have to wait and see, also some new crazing halfway up the bonnet. Got a witness, I didnt see the prang and she insisted she hadn`t done it until the witness said he saw everything, good man.

Good job you had that witness - at least there are some good people about!

Had a woman do the same to mine about 3 months after I bought it, reversed into me when she decided she was in the wrong lane at a T-junction and managed to introduce her tow bar to the bonnet between the air ducts. Had the repair done by a place in Farnham (unfortunately they have closed down now) and they did a spot on job.

Find a place that is used to dealing with fibreglass repairs, if they have a decent amount of experience then I'm sure they'll do a good job.

Might be worth asking at a boatyard about that sort of repair if you don't get any luck finding a coachworks nearby, they must work with fibreglass a fair bit.

Its worth taking the inner wings off and checking for damage to the plywood mounts and the hinges. They are both a bit vulnerable to frontal impact.

My bonnet nearly got the same treatment today. I was going round a tight left hand bend and a motor bike was coming the opposite direction (at quite a high speed) when a deer shot out in front of him causing him to swerve quite dramatically on to my side of the road to avoid hitting it. Jesus flaming wept, to say he missed my bonnet by a matter of inches is an understatement.

Oh, the deer escaped unharmed as well, it dashed back where it had originally come from.

Sometimes the inevitable happens, rather large dog fox walked out in front of me, I'm making progress, he sees me and turns to run away, Oops too late!!!


Cost me a radiator rebuild and a fair bit of work glassing up the damage.
If that had been a normal steel road car the damage would have been substantial.

New bonnet cost me (or rather my insurers) about £3.5K a few years ago. I think that was someone realising it was an insurance job so they took the piss..

When I got the bonnet thumped again Silverback Mike rescued the car and fixed a damaged bonnet for a fraction of this. Check the hinges for damage, but I should think if its basically in the right number of pieces, its got to be cheaper to fix than replace..

I'm going through the same problem at the moment with my rear end damage. Gone through the insurance company, estimates came in at £3.5K for repair and only half the car resprayed (70hrs labour @ £30 p/hr + parts), ask if the whole car can be resprayed and company wanted an extra £1.5K . Sorry but I have worked on fibre glass cars / bikes may times before and someone is taken the P*ss.

Only way I could get the car fixed the 2nd time was to buy it back and sell it to an enthusiast who had the time to do the job themself. I'd have made a crack at it, but was living in Sheffield and commuting to Bristol to work, so no time to sort..

Hi longers, the car is going to Bristol Monday morning. The damage isn`t to severe, the hinges etc are ok, the bonnet is cracked next to the number plate and crazing in various places. At least the stone chips will have gone with a paint job.
