Heat wrap for manifolds

Hi

was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction so I can get some heat insulation "wrap" for the manifolds on the car... I am sure I have seen this (don't think I am going mad)...

Nothing else really to do on the car so I thought I would see if I could try and combat some of the heat soak in the engine bay...

Most aftermarket places like Demon Tweaks, Rally Design etc will supply Thermotec heat wrap.

how much do you think I will need to do the manifolds as far down as where the cats used to be on a v6?

Don't know, can't visualise the exhaust. On the V8, 50' of 2" bandage was enough to do both headers out as far as the Y piece with about 50% overlap, if that helps. You can stretch it much further if you reduce the overlap, obviously.

They also have a coverage chart so you can work out how much you need. I think I purchased two 1" 50ft lengths, this gave me enough to wrap the manifolds and the de cat pipes.

I got the copper stuff, expensive, but does the job.

One tip: it's well worth getting a roll of stainless lockwire and using it to strap the heat wrap down at regular intervals - say 6". It makes it rather easier to install the heatwrap, and also means that later on when the heat wrap has gone brittle and started to break down when it finally goes you only lose small sections instead of the whole darned lot falling off.
