sticking throttle

On the way back from the succesful MOT, the throttle started to stick and wouldn`t return fully to the idle position. After a good root around I found the cable at the pedal end was badly frayed, luckily I had a spare, so it`s now fitted, the car feels great again, jackpot.

May just be normal wear and tear, throttle cables don't last forever, but there are several problems that can cause it to go prematurely:

cable outer not aligned with the pedal where it comes through the bulkhead
pedal adjusted too high so the cable is kinked at idle
driver using the cable as a throttle stop

I suggest you keep the old cable, shorten the outer by 6" or so, take the ferrule off the pedal end and drill it out to form a bellmouth shape where the cable inner passes through. Then use a screw cable nipple to secure the cable inner. This removes the sharp kink where the inner leaves the pedal.
