What's the current way of thinking as regards replacement tyres for the V8S? As I managed to kill three on track over the weekend 
I've got SO2 boots all around right now, so won't be able to replace like for like. I used to have RE720s on my S3 and was impresed with them, but am not sure if they are available now and I recall they were V rated where the V8S needs Z rated tyres...
Any advice appreciated

I put Dunlop SP 9000's on my V8S. As you say, choice pretty limited now for Z rated 15" tyres. Thought they were OK - but probably not as good as the S02s. I got them for about £74 a corner.
I've got Toyos on the Chim - 15" fronts and they seem OK. Too new to the Chim to really judge yet.

BlackCircles are showing Toya R888's as another Z-rated option (£7 more than the SP9000s though), while at V-rated you've got Bridgetone RE040s, Pirelli P6000s, Toyo Proxes T1-R, Continental Premium Contact and Michelin Pilot Exalto.
Some damn fine tyres at the lower speed rating, makes me wonder if they're a better bet, I know there is the theory that insurance could be invalid, but I can't recall anything in the manual or from TVR where they state tyres must be Z-rated...

SP 9000's are OK - not as good as RE720's but at least they are available........ The Michelin's I had were terrible and I changed the lot after 4 months. Goodyear F1 Eagles were excellent but no longer available in the tyre size and rating.
Try W rated tyres too - they are good for 150mph like Z 'uns.

Mmm, all very confusing - Elite Direct shows 40 different tyres but none scream out to me like the choices of old.
As regards speed ratings, V is rated up to 149mph, can't recall the top speed of the V8S, but it can't be far off that and realistically doing that in an S would be an interesting experience anyway!
At the moment the Bridgestone Potenza RE010 LZs look a good choice as they are Z-rated and are £70.44 fitted...

From what I saw I can understand how you managed to kill your rear tyres on Sunday.
Like you said, I don't think RE720s are available any more. I got a couple in January for the front of mine but there has been posts on here since from poeple who have not been able to get them. Good luck 'cause I think they are a good tyre.

On my last few timed runs I could hardly keep the back end straight, they are way past the tread markers now!I'll give Elite a call later, if they can't source RE720s then my choice is made, a shame as I loved the RE720s on the S3.
OK, just given my old faves Elite Direct a call to see what they have...

They've got Toyo T1-R at a great price, but they're only V-rated, for Z there are Dunlop SP9000s and Yoko have the S-Drive that's W rated.
Since our Chim and Griff chums all seem to have gone for Toyo that's the way I'm leaning, as they're great value, but what are the insurance implications, is there something somewhere in a manual that stipulates a V8S must have a Z rated tyre?

It could give an insurance company a wriggle out clause in the event of a claim but as the tyre rating is based on speed and they are all above the legal maximum it should not make a difference.No RE720s

Not too worried about next buyer in this case, would they really manage to get the few extra mph (8 is is...) beyond the 149mph rating of the tyres...
No RE720s on etyres either, looks like our choice is really being railroaded
BTW I've got one good S03 which I'll keep in the garage, free to a good home...

OK, done around 250 miles on the Toya T1-Rs now and they are starting to bed in, not the ideal weekend for then and keeping up with some mates caused a few lairy moments, so far alright though, mind you considering the tracking and alignment changes made last week, I'm not getting a consistent comparison between old and new.
Am slightly concerned that they might be too hard a tyre for the Tiv, but will adjust/check pressures and see how they go and report back.

Was a little happier with them last weekend, but wasn't really out long enough to make a good judgement, if you can wait until Monday I'll give them another razz and see what I think.Given the few hours of sleep I'd had after a party last Saturday any judgement on Sunday would have been somewhat fuzzy
Not getting very far with this.. Several local tyre places can't source anything in the right size, the one Ive just spoken to won't touch Toyos, but are suggesting Pirelli P7s. Waiting on a few phone calls back, including a couple from yesterday that didn't call me back when they said they would.. Hmm..

My S2 had a set on when I bought it, and after a few months of that I decided they had to go. I went on a track day with the express intention of wearing them out and abused them all day, but I had to admit defeat in the end because there was no wear at all that I could see. I expect they'd have been great for drifting, probably last for years ...
