Suspension of Choice

Mine is really on it's last legs, with shocks leaking and the handling some what abstract especially when disturbed and under breaking, so it time to get something new, but what???

I'm not too worried about it being adjustable, rather something that can (or had already) been setup by someone who knows what they are doing for fast-road and track usage, but it also needs to be compliant enough for drives to Le Mans etc.

I quite fancied the Bilstein's that TVR Power were doing, but never heard whether they did a V8S option, so any suggestions would be welcome.

Speak to Joolz he runs a V8S and has tried every combination of suspension on his car. PeterH is another one to ask.
I ran Nitrons on the V8S and I was very pleased.

Rob,first question is how much do you want to pay,as it seems to range from "standard" about £500 to well £1k for nitrons

Not too worried about cost within those brackets to be honest, but don't want to pay over the odds for x-way adjustables when I don't want adjustability, would rather have good shocks that aren't adjustable...

Definitely thinking a step up from AVOs, Nitrons have always seemed to be the big step from there (obviously there is the gigantic leap to Ohlins), but something in the middle would seem about right.

I've got AVO's and while I've not fiddled intensively I'm inclined to agree - they aren't great.
They are however a huge improvement on the old leaking koni's.

I think that where dampers are concerned you should get the best you can afford. Within this price range the difference between budget dampers and really good dampers is very noticeable. The problem is that without trying them all out it's very hard to form your own opinion about how much difference it makes and whether it's going to be worth the extra money.

The conclusion I came to last time I was in the market was that Nitrons felt dramatically better than the other brands I had tried previously (Koni, Spax <spit>, AVO, Gaz) and felt very similar to the Ohlins costing twice as much. All these brands have moved on since then I'm sure, and I wouldn't take it for granted that Nitrons were still the best price/performance combination, but they'd be starting out a strong favourite in my book.

Had a few chats so far and been warned off Bilstein, but had many good things said about Gaz, so those could be tempting too...

Nitrons were the way I was thinking to be honest, but wanted to collect some opinions as it's been some years since I last looked at sorting S suspension.
