I am getting ready to remove my sump, as there is a fine crack, leading to oil leak when hot. Is the sump of an S3c (1992 J) modified in any way, or can I fit a standard Ford sump?

Had the sump replaced on a 91 S3c myself, the part numbers in 2001 were

Sump (2.9). Ford 1634644 (£128 25/4/01)
Sump Gasket (2.9). Ford 6195424

Thanks Steve. Sump seems expensive! Did you have any problems getting to and replacing the sump?

£128 does seem slightly expensive, remember it is only a Ford engine.

The sump of any Ford 2.9 enginr will fit (sierra / Granada), you should be able to source a replacement from a Ford breakers.

That was back in 2001, done by Peninsula, together with the engine mounts, which I could not get at.I believe they had to lift engine to get at sump as there was a chassis cross member getting in the way.
Price, recall I priced a sump from local dealer and Peninsula were not that far from their figure, Should have no problem sourcing a 2nd hand one.

Thanks chaps. I have already managed to get hold of sump from a Ford breakers. Just a case of whipping the engine out now. Nothing is ever simple! Ive had to enlist the help of "her indoors" for many other jobs, her small hands can get in places mine cant. I might hire out her services to other S owners!
