Water pump for my 1988 "S1"

You can cross-check the partnumbers they come up with for sierra or granada: Any 2.9 sierra should have the same pump as any 2.9 granada, and the same goes for 2.8 granada, Capri and sierra. Do keep in mind that the 2.8 pump is different to the 2.9 pump: the 2.8 pump has a circular hole for the thermostat, which the 2.9 hasn't.
The 2.8 is a bit of a pain in the arse to fit.
You have to take out about 14 bolts including 3 long ones that go through the block to the back of the thermostat housing - so there is a sort of sandwich between water pump / engine block / thermostat housing and you have to get them all lined up with gaskets front and rear.
Be careful not to overtighten the thermostat housing bolts they are only thin you could easily snap them off using a socket set - better to use a small spanner so you can feel how tight they are.
Get the waterpump bolted on loosely first then attend to the thermostat housing.
I did one on a 2.3 I'm pretty sure it will be the same.
I'd hazard a guess that the different water pumps quoted will just have a different end to the pulley mounting - earlier versions like the capri would have had an engine driven fan mounted on the water pump pulley whereas later ones (xr4x4 possibly) would have an electric fan.

The thermostat goes in the front so its an even bigger sandwich - I forgot that.
You have thermostat housing at the front / thermostat housing gasket / water pump / water pump gasket / engine block / water elbow gasket / water elbow at the back with three long thin bolts through the lot. The rear elbow is threaded to accept the bolts.
If you put it together and it leaks I guarantee you will swear alot.
