Prices in freefall ?

What is going on - the prices of Chim's are tumbling and I presume V8S prices in particular will be pushed below them as an older car ? The sixes will I guess get squashed even further.

Before the replies start with the 420 odd V8S against 7,000 (IRC) Chim's I know, but it doesn't help really does it ? A minter V8S is still only going to achieve £10, maybe £11k. More realistic prices are what now, £7 or 8k maybe ?
I was just surprised how cheap the Chim's have become. I now its winter and all that but mildly concerning all the same.

Its the old adage of supply and demand. Many chims on the market so prices fall. Regarding the S and particarly the V8s there not so many. So in theory the price of the V8 should hold steady. Of course it depends on the demand for the V8 but they are a popular car and compared to the 4.0L chim there is not much in it. I looked on Autoscout24 there left hand drive V8s are comanding 15000 to 18000 pounds. I found two available. Left hand drives are rare cars in europe so prices are at a premium.
I agree too many up for sale puts people off.You start to wonder why?
I dont think I have seen a freefall in V6 prices since last year when I was watching and eventually bought mine, There seems to be some real wrecks out there for total restoration that I did not see last year but I think that prices appear to be steady for comparable condition cars... and at this age Condition is what really dictates the price of an individual car. I think V6 prices have stopped depreciating overall. I cant speak for V8's nor Chims of course and I understand what you are saying about their prices effecting the V6's, just so far I have not seen it. fingers crossed...
I agree (..or is it hope)that V6 prices are as low as they will be. The previous owner of mine bought the car for £9,500 in 2001, I paid a lot less than half that @ 44k and I consider it to be ab extremely good example after having spent £300 or so on it.
Going by this this means my car will be worth about £2k in a couple of years-no chance! If thats the case I need a bigger garage so I can fit several in!
The Chim over V8s could be seen as a valid argument, ie newer, more refined etc, but the rarity of the V8s will show through-especially in a few more years when S's are "true" classics!

And I know from the experience of a guy at work that a cheap Chimaera may be cheap for a reason. I'm not saying all cheap Chimaeras are poor cars but the one he bought was a complete dog!! Equivalent money should get a well sorted S where there should be less chance of problems.

I have been doing the annual "should I upgrade" thing and actually looked at a couple of Griffs and Chims which have been under £10k. Net result is that whilst the owners talked the talk OK the cars had not had the servicing and general attention that they needed ("chassis was waxoyled 3-4 years ago" - no sign of any at all now - how does that happen if it was done then??) with the result that the chassis would have needed a very good scrub down just to see what it was really like and minimal other stuff had been done - ie who knows how much it would cost to get them right. At least I know where I am with the S and considering its mileage (102K) it is in much better condition than the cars I looked at. As the S prices are very low at the moment there is little thought of me changing it now; (after all it is super fun, goes OK, holds the road well and does have enough room for a few days away for 2 (with some careful packing!)) so why change??
The experience has made me realise what a good car it is and has put me off the thought of changing so no more hours spent looking at the adverts ...
Now if someone was to offer me a super Griff in the right colour and condition at a very low price ... hmmm .. but it won't happen

Certainly not, last year a V8S sold for £17K, a mint one at that, but you could buy Chims for £10K then. Its a simple supply and demand as the Chim is so common these days and lots up for sale keeps prices low. For the S and especially the V8S as there are only 200 in the world prices will I am sure stay firm. I personally would rather have a V8S than a Chim anyday, its just not my cup of tea.
Like it has been said there are some classic TVR's that sell for more than Griffs/Chims/Cerberas...
