Need a brake servo - help please

Morning all,
I need a new brake servo and I can't find one anywhere so thought I would ask for suggestions - mine is the type with the remote resavoir which tells me its the Saab 900 non ABS type - have tried tvrcarparts who can't help me and a few of the Saab parts websites via google to no avail - so my questions are :-

1. Does anyone know where I can source a direct replacement servo ??
2. Does anyone know / has undertaken a modified arrangement.

I believe the one with the integrated reservoir is from a fiesta. I don't know any more.

does anyone know what else is the difference between the one I have with the remote resavoir and the one with with the resavoir integral - i.e. could I simply use the one with the integral and do away with the remote resavoir ???

I had the same problem 12 about 10 months ago.

It's not cheap (£200 plus) but its cheaper than the Saab dealer option (£500 plus I seem to recall)

You can fit the Ford unit

But it involves drilling new holes in the bulkhead. - and therefore more water in the footwells on rainy days!!

harry i have read a thread on here the guy used a servo from a mk3 fiesta i.i and as i remember i was not a problem fitting it try a search on servo

Graham - if you decide to move to a Ford unit with integrated reservoir then talk to me about it mate... I replaced mine remember? but of course mine was a straight swap as it already had the Ford unit. I wouldnt be afraid of drilling the bulkhead and stiffening plate in the footwell, but you will need to make sure that pedal travel and angles etc are the same. If you can get the details of the correct SAAB servo and master cylinder then we can compare notes on cylinder dia and stroke to ensure you are sending the correct amount of fluid down the lines... standing our cars next to each other (again) would probably answer most questions... you know where I am

Kev - your a star mate thanks - I might need to take you up on that offer as I am really struggling to find a Saab unit - I will keep going for a couple of days down the Saab route and will give you a shout if no success.

When I needed a new servo last year, I went to a motor factors and asked them to see their brake parts catalogue. This shop stocks Bosch parts, but you might as well get some other brand. Originally I wanted to change the combo master cylinder/servo to a Fiesta one, but it turns out that there are a dozen different servo's for a Fiesta. The catalogue gave only one partnumber for Saab 9000 (not 900) without ABS, so I ordered that one. It fits and works great. The Bosch partno. is 0 986 485 118. I got it for less than 100 pounds.

And as he says look for the alternatives too...

The Brake parts catalog shows the servo as their part# VSB1178 "Girling" @ £132.24 and the Master Cylinder as BMC4724 "Girling" @ £84.58 (a bit higher than the 99p I paid on ebay...)

now thats their part nums, but if you can find those part nums listed for another car on their site then that opens up some possibilities (I've checked the Fiestas and they are different and the TVR listing is the same as the SAAB)

Might be worth looking up the Girling part num for the SAAB and seeing if it is used on other cars too...

Spent the whole day on the phone to so many people I can't even count them all - cut a long story short I think I have one at about £200 - Parts for Saabs wanted £575 will let you know if its the right one when it arrives.

For future reference guys Lucas, Bosch and Girling don't have any and are not making anymore so we are relying on someone somwhere having an old one on the shelf and judging by how hard it has been for me to find one I think it may be the last one around.

Interesting that they are supplying remanufactured parts, might be useful for the future?

Just stripped the old one off the car tonight in anticipation of the new one arriving tomorrow and Oh My God it looked as new from the top but it literally fell apart in my hands and crumbled into pieces at the bottom.
