Well, very nearly. I've just agreed to sell my S2 which I have thoroughly enjoyed ownership of. These cars are fantastic fun and great value.

I'm still loitering around here though as I'm keeping the V8S, and then there may be a new toy coming...

No, that's a different plate, I'm just in the process of writing to DVLA about mine as they didn't respond to my letter 3/4 weeks ago.

Can you believe it! I wrote to DVLA weeks ago asking how I retain my rights to the old Cerb's index number - they haven't replied. I phoned today and was told 'you should have notified us of your intention BEFORE the incident happened'.

As I said, how on earth could I be expected to know it was going to burst into flames, a clue I didn't know it was going to happen was that I was driving it arghhhhhh.

New letter duly created and despatched.

Transferring a plate from one car to another is enough hassle as it is, let alone from a car thats gone up in smoke (maybe you should have forgotten to tell them that bit!).

Last time we gave up and paid the retention fee, and it still took them ages even though they are happy to take your money for the privilege.

Yes, belive it or not, they told me that if they did agree to let me have the plate they will issue a new number to my old Cerb.

I reminded her there was nothing left of it so there really was no point and she said that didn't matter they'll do it anyway. So, they'll issue a number that will never be used to a car that doesn't exist. The person that threw together (sorry, designed) this business process has no doubt been promoted. Could now be in charge of information security at HMRC...
