painting s2 chassis

hi guys my chassis is ready for painting am i going over the top by applying por metal etch then 2 coats of por 15 and then i coat of hammerite followed by waxoil this seems good to me what do you think?

Personally I wouldn't mix the Hammerite and the POR but otherwise seems good enough!

I believe you can use the POR chassis paint on top of the POR 15 stuff?

I use hammerite over POR15 and it works. Needed 2 coats to cover properly but it was the smooth black which isn't the best for covering anyway. I then applied Waxoyl underbody seal (the black stuff) to the outriggers and other exposed bits - basically all teh bits that were rusty.

The application notes recommend a primer over the POR15 before the top coat: http://www.por15.com/ . Worth having a careful read through them before deciding exactly what to do. I recall seeing a comment that the surfaces should be 'bone dry' before applying the paint, I used a hot air gun to warm the chassis and stored the suspension parts in the house until ready to apply.

Do you really need to top coat at all? Properly done POR15 only needs it for UV protection. Theres not much of the chassis exposed to direct sunlight anyway and once you waxoyl and get some dirt and dust on it that should be enough IMO. Not convinced that Hammerite would be worth the extra effort and you always need 2 coats with that stuff because theres so little pigment in it.

hi thanks for the info i will just use por 15 on the chassis but i have done the swinging arms and the petrol tank cradle with hammerite as well. i will leave it at that and just waxoil at the end.
