Have just got home in the newest addition to my family...a mica blue V8S. It's basically sound but needs some bits and pieces doing to get it up to scratch. Anyone know where the cheepest places are to get the following are?
1)replacement indicator lenses
2)replacement headlamp units (glass and reflectors)
3)replacement driving lights

Has anyone had the fuel filler cap re-cromed and if so how dificult was it to get off and back on.

Sorry for all the questions. Thats all for now folks....the bank balance won't take any more just yet.

Cheers
Kevin

Try "Autofast" for the indicator lenses... seem to recall they're about £5 each or something.

As for the other lamps, try Lucas, but I'm not 100% sure...

Oh, and welcome back to the "S club"

Welcome back to the 'S Club'.
The indicator lenses are from a Sherpa Van which can be purchased from your local Rover dealer.
As for the driving lights not too sure where you can buy then but once you have, buy a pair of plastic covers to fit over them as they are prone to stone chips (as you know).

For the driving lamps do a search and look on the FAQ in the S section. I posted the details there somewhere.

YOu can get them from Lucas at around £35 for a pair.

Hi Kevin,

As has been said, welcome back to the world of S. Getting to own two V8S's can't be all bad, and Mica Blue too!

As Podie said, Autofast are a good bet for the indicator lenses; they give the impression that they get more orders for lenses for TVRs than for LDV vans, so they should be able to set you straight.

Not sure of the best source for the driving lights, but it's worth checking whether they're wired with the full or dipped beam (or even just sidelights) as this'll indicate whether you need fog or spot lamps.

Thanks for the replies guys,

Just phoned autofast and £6.00 +vat is SOOOO much better than £25 from a well known TVR main dealer.

Next up....headlights and driving lights.

I don't suppose you use to own a black V8S with full magnolia and heated seats (surely a unique combination!)? If so, I continue to be the second owner of said vehicle, plus the original order form, invoices etc. etc.

A fantastic car, even coping with being soundly thrashed round the TVR Sprint Championship this year!

Welcome back into the fold.

Cheers

Hi Adrian,

Good to hear my first beast is still with a caring owner. while I was looking for another one, I was half hoping that it would come back up for sale again. As you say a rare combination. I have yet to see another V8S with full leather. I think ours will be fully leathered eventually.

Must meet up sometime. I'm just south of heathrow...the address will still be on your V5.

Cheers Kevin

Some time ago I bought headlights for my S2 here
www.seaes.co.uk/. They used to supply the local TVR dealer.
Guess who was cheaper Sorry, don't know if they do mail order, but a generallay helpful bunch, in my experience, so worth a call.

Great pic Adrian. I'm afraid I'm not in the 21st century yet so can't post pics of our new beast (sorry pies).

I've now bought the indicator lenses. I have a price of £35 +vat for both headlights. That's reasonable is it? The best quote so far for the driving lights is £40 +vat. That sounds laughable to me. Or not?

After spending the evening fitting a new stereo and connecting up the fresh air vents (some b*****d had left them disconnected!!!)I was reminded of the various mods (fresh air vents included) that I did to my first V8S. How are they holding up Adrian? If you dont know they are probably still OK.

Not so sure of the mods (I try quite carefully not to get involved in the gubbins side of things), but I can adjust the air temperature between stifling and roasting, which I suppose may well be better than standard!

I'm having a nightmare tracking down these driving lights. Lucas are quoting about £36 for a pair but 150 days delivery MINIMUM! TVR want £85 for a set and, if I ever crack another I have to go through the whole process again. Does anyone know of a readily available alternative to the Lucas DX-150.
