My car runs on elastic bands!

I have somehow managed to break the large return spring on the throttle assembly doo-hicky which means the cable is now reluctant to return to the idle position (interesting when sat in Traffic!). A couple of cunningly placed elastic bands are currenty keeping me on the black stuff, but I'm a bit concerned about their ability to retain their elsatic properties through the temperature extremes under the bonnet. Can anyone point me in the direction of a replacement spring (or assembly)?

If I were you I'd get straight down the local scrappy and raid an old sierra's/granada etc?

And if I were you, I'd go on the bus.If it doesn't return you could end up embedded in the back of another car.

You could always go for a test drive in that white one on ebay and nick the spring when the seller isn't looking

Good thinking chris, in fact its given me a good idea of how to get hold of a set indicator lenses...saw a nice pair on a V8s, definatley worth the trip to Nottingham!

Or, you could come test drive mine.......buy it and then you've got a whole car for spares

might be an expensive way of going about it though

Ah - you'd be wrong!
I took the bonnet off last night and the first thing I did was take the indicators off & put them in my safety deposit box!

I've sometimes wondered if there was an easy way of improving the throttle return as mine can be a bit slow to shut down at times. This could be because there is some play in the little nylon bushes at the top/bottom of the spindle that the cable connects to and Uncle Henry no longer sells them and scrappers seem to be worn as well - so has anyone done anything here??

Don't worry, the other springs still do a reasonable job, but leave it partly open at about 2k revs. Maybe a bit of shock cord would be a better temporary fix until I can get to a scrappy...

When mine broke I unwound one of the coils with a pair of needlenose pliers & formed a new hook on the end. It's been perfect ever since!
