s2 swinging arms

hi silly question but im going to refit the swinging arms and the bolts on all the photos i have seen seem to have the heads on the outside now how do you get the bolts in this way round without bending up the rear body/seat belt mount or does it not matter what way round they go,i dont really want to bend the mounts ive just painted them thanks in advance

if I follow you, the large bolt goes through the bracket and bush of the trailing arm from the outside in-over so the head is on the outside. It should not foul on the bracket you mention, but is a bugger to get aligned...
I recommend you leave the shims off the inner mounting until you manage to get this bolt through both sides of the bracket, and then twist/lever the trailing arm to re-fit the shims later

hi kev looking at your photo my body mounts seem closer and the bolt head will not pass but maybe i have just had a senior moment it was bloody cold i will have another look at it tomorrow but i remember when i stripped it down i had to bend up the mount it was not a problem then as it came off in my hand but this is another chassis,i will have a look at tvrgits website thanks
mmm a discrepency here mine is different the outer trailing arm bolt centre is in line with the body mount there is no way i can put his bolt through with the head on the outside unless i bend the body mount up it seems that your body mount is higher than mine maybe its an s2. Kev i will e mail you a photo as i dont know yet how to post a photo on here

step by step guide, please excuse if it seems patronising.
1)Go to www.imageshack.us
2)click on the browse button, find your pic that you have saved and select it.
3)click the button "host it" and wait a mo
4)you will have various links come up, but the last one is a "direct link to image". Just copy this (highlight, right click and copy.)
5) In your post type:
[pic]then right click and paste the text you copied followed by[/pic]
dont leave nay spaces and it should work.
dont forget to use square brackets.

Hmm looked at the photo - that is definitely much lower than mine...
I found another pic of mine from a slightly different angle
The bracket from the rear tube up to the body platform definitely looks much higher on mine - I think the suspension mounting bracket is the same.

guys i think i just sussed it i have just looked at the old chassis and although the upright part had rotted off the bottom of it is still there and it is the same as this one so the s2 is different to the s3 here, seans s3 is also the same as yours so i dont think i can bend it due to the fillet underneath so i will have to put the bolts in from the inside and hope its ok...

The design of that body mount on the S3 is quite different, the horizontal part is shorter and the nut sits between the two uprights. I guess they increased the height to give some clearance from the crossmember to the bolt that secures the body. IMO It doesn't matter which way round those pivot bolts are fitted, why would it?K
Yep yours is different to mine (S3) Ken...
IIRC I would not have been able to slide mine in from the inside outover with the nut on the outside the same as yours as the upright would have been in the way... believe me I looked at all possibilities as it was so difficult to refit.
I agree it would make no difference which way around it should be. I hope yours is easier to refit.
