sean that is a bit of a ba***rd,how did you get on with the prop bolts when the car is off the floor... more fun but you are there now well done im about 2 months in front of you if you need any part nos email me or post ive kept the bills with the nos on and am going for more parts on thursday regards ken
Ken - you are a godsend - Bits needed so far
hand brake cable
I am going to do all brake lines - any idea what the rubber pipes No's are ?
Engine rubber mounts
Can anyone tell me how to get the lower bolt off (it looks recessed) on the diff carrier - that job was a complete arse from start to finish - starting with the T40 bolts - F**k me did they have superman doing them up. I lost an hour and half today going to screwfix to get an extra toughened T40 head - I thought the bolts where going to snap. I was going to undo the ones connected to the wheels and low and behold there is a T40 head broke in one of the bolt heads (not me either).
Just front suspension and steering rack to remove - hopefully no suprises. then welding can start.
best wishes to all

Barkychoc,
We have just had a massive argument about the restoration -
after she came up to me on her hands and knees -
Do you know what she said to me -
If you dont come out from under that f*****g bed -
I dont think I will be working on the chassis new years day -
I will be out of hospital shortly.
Sean
Hopefully in time to buy her some shoes in the sales.

My local car spares place quoted silly prices for new rubber brake hoses so it actually worked out cheaper to go to Goodridge for braided. If you use them talk to their tech support chaps first to make sure you get the correct bits, they do a kit for the S3 which doesn't fit mine.
I used the 50mm Rallydesign engine mounts, mines a Cologne though so yours may be a different size/shape.
Now you've got that far, taking the front suspension apart shouldn't present too many problems. Its probably better to leave the balljoints on the hubs and split them on the bench if you need to get them apart. I had to split the locknuts for the trackrod ends, took a while to find replacements!
Buy the GF some safety shoes and overalls in the sales, get her involved, she'll love it!!

I would be interested in the part no for this, I've got 3 bolts I just cant get out, so far I've snapped 2 T40 bits on them, I was thinking of buying an impact version but there's a screwfix near me so it would be worth trying one of theirs first.Hi Clarence - the part no is 70246 at screwfix (£1.99). The original one I used undid 3 before it became worn. I had another one which a mechanic friend lent to me, it was much longer and was mounted on a T bar with a 1/2 inch drive, it would not undo them, until they were whacked with a hammer (and I mean whacked) on the extended T40 bit, they then released much easlier.
I will see if I can get the part no from my friend for the extended T40.
Regards
Sean

sean brake pipe nos im getting mine on thursday and will get the nos, im told the rear rubber ones are from a talbot the fronts may well be sierra the engine mounts are supposed to be 2"transit i will ask at the motorfacors the handbrake cable is a hybrid i think allegro only available from tvr in devon if you need any driveshaft bolts i have a couple spare i can post to you
Hi all, the chassis is now unassembled and is off the the shot blasters tomorrow. So I will finally see what i have got.
1. Does anyone know the original gauge of the large 2.25 rear suspension outrigger suspension mounting. I need to turn internal tubes.
2. Can anyone tell me what the front upper and lower wishbone bushes (S3)I beleive one set is spf 0808 (45mm long) and where can I order them from.
3. Whilst trying to drill out the broken T40 bit (driveshaft) I slipped and
drilled through the rubber boot (arse)Part No ? - I think I will try and grind it out with a dremel.
4. Can anyone give advice on coating, I have seen somewhere about a zinc based paint - is it sprayable and can a top coat then be applied ?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Reference the zinc/repaint drop Adrian Venn a line http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/profile.asp?h=0...
Hopefully he will help as i suspect he's forgot more about restoring a chassis than most will ever know

Some of the griff guys rave about this, it does say the metal has to be grit blasted.

I made enquiries - email reply copied below.
Chris,
I would suggest the normal Zinga is the most appropriate product for coating a chassis. Many different top coats can be applied over Zinga but this is usually an individual thing more to do with the cosmetic appearance of a component. Zinga can be sprayed, brushed or rolled onto a chassis after grit blasting. Prices as follows excl vat:
- 2 kg tin @ £13.35 per kg
- 5kg tin @ £11.95 pkg
- 10kg tin @ £11.45 pkg
- 25kg tin @ £11.00 pkg
Please contact me if you require further info or advise.
Regards,
Steve.
