Amps through ignition connector

i need to replace the connector from the ignition switch to the loom (the one that always melts)

would a connector with a 30 amp current be strong enough ?

you can go up to 120Amp but a lot more expensive

Haven't checked the wiring diagram to see how much current is likely to go through the ignition connector, but the main current draws (lights etc) aren't ignition-controlled. I think it's unlikely that the current through the switch will be anywhere near 30 amps.

I would seriously doubt if you need anything near 30 amps let alone 120 on that circuit. Older cars with mechanical ignition systems could have high loads through the ignition but an s series with an electronic ignition shouldn't need it.

Usually that circuit would have a relay that would go to the fuse panel that would feed all of the accessory circuits. After the relay is where you could beef up the wiring. If your car isn't wired this way then you could modify it quite easily.

The cable gauge at that point is no more than 2.5mm sq, so if it was T+E that would be a 20amp rating, might be little higher as the cable is not jacketed.

I bypassed mine a few weeks before Christmas using 20amp connectors without issue - I have checked to see if it is getting hot - to date, no.
