'Walnut' dashboard

Planning on doing some renovating my S2 and was wondering if anyone could help me out with regard to the dashboard. It is a 'Walnut' dashboard ie hand painted fibreglass. (I would add a photo if only I knew how can anybody tell me please)

Has anyone had one of these restored, mine is not too bad and possibly I could get away with a bit of a touch up.

That looks OK to me. They can get the damp in and gain a sort of milky/mildew appearence.

No abuse, just the fact that you get a "heads up" instrument display across the windscreen at night with the original design.

Thanks Podie but it painted fibreglass, that why i pu Walnut in quotes, so its a painter I need not a carpenter.

Does anyone have any idea where the factory had them done?

I bought some black (same as my dash) foam sheet (Hobbycraft) to wedge in the between the dash facia panel and the top, shaped to mask the reflections from the two main dials.

Gerald, they do veneering. Still worth the cost of a phonecall IMO.

Hi Norman,

My 'walnut' dash needs doing also, as I'm converting the car to LHD. I eventually found someone who masters this art through a paint shop. Apparently painting walnut, or another expensive type of wood, or marble, on furniture etc. has been a common practice up until the 1960's. Over here (Holland) there are still some elderly ex-painters and a few artists around that make a living out of these skills, mostly in restoring paint effects or painting new panels in restored buildings. a good paint shop in your area may know someone?

Or a scenic artist / painter - try the Swan theatre stage manager or stage doorman ?
