As a second car you will be amazed then amazed again how cheap they are to insure as a second car with limited mileage.
My driving record is rubbish plus 6 points on licence, V8 - £140 odd.

And I'm a lot younger still with little NCB and for me they want.... £190 on a 5000 mile a year policy. AT my age you couldn't insure a moped for that, so they get a big thumbs up.
As regards finding them, I'm in the same boat, they seem to be rather thin on the ground at the moment. Whereabouts are you? Most seem to be oop north.
Have you driven one yet? I'm very picky with cars (eliminated a list as long as your arm - including other TVRs - before settling on an S) and when I saw and heard one in the flesh for the first time I knew I'd made the right choice. I now just need to hurry up and buy one...

Yep, certainly goes. Marked difference in performance to the S1 I saw. It turns out the earlier engine is substantially different BTW, in case, like me you assumed it was a just an over-bore. I'm reliably informed only one 2.8 Cologne ever actually made 160hp off the shelf and that never found its way onto a TVR. The 170hp claimed for the 2.9 was far more realistic though apparently and judging by the weekend - that one atleast - had aged better too.
You might not be interested, but in case you have found yourself wondering (like I did) the other differences I noticed were minor. I really couldn't feel the suspension tweaks that seperate the two. The gearbox was nicer on the S1, but that may be down to car-to-car variation rather than design. The doors did make it a lot easier getting in the later car, but the contortion required ont he S1 is half the fun. Both sounded like TVR had sneaked a couple of extra cylinders under the bonnet whilst Ford weren't looking. Only other thing is the fact the throttle travel is much smaller on the S3 so would be more suitable if you were of the heel'n'toe persuasion. Getting pretty minor now though!

Welcome STtwo, and glad you've seen the light!
Any faults are minor on the S series, bearing in mind the age of cars and the fantasic fun factor, as you say the noise, mmm.
As posted above, they are loud, some very loud. My S2 was louder than my V8S and that certainly isn't quiet.
