Door Issues

Hi

I have been enjoying my S2 on Herefordshires twisty but bumpy roads. I have noticed that the resulting vibration has loosened the drivers door catch to the extent that two of the three bolts holding the catch to the door have fallen out. Does anyone know where the mechanism was sourced and where i should try and track down replacements?

In addition the passenger door has dropped on its hinge, the Steve Heath bible does not give much info on tackling this issue but i am assuming i will have to strip the door trim etc to get at the bolts?

Any advice welcomed.

Steve, my drivers door has dropped a bit, and I know from other posts it is a complete pig to adjust, so, er, I've ignored it hoping it will go away. You need the hands the size of a 4 year old I understand which rules me out!
Someone who's done this before I'm sure will enlighten you.

it was good for me when I did mine, unfortunatly the pics are missing, however when you get the door card out of the way, you can get a peek in and you will see what you need to do, I replaced mine with phosphor bronze bushes, I did nt see the point in using plastic, however I only fixed the top one as they had kindly completely covered the lower hinge in fibreglass, which I took one look and thought I'll do that later, 16 months on, the door still has no play and closes nicely.

Hi,

This is a job I am also considering but how do I get the speaker out? There seem to be no visible screws on the outside. I am guessing that the speakers in my car are factory fit pioneer ones.

The mesh grille that covers the speaker can be prised off to reveal the retaining screws

Any thoughts on how to track down my missing door catch Bolts/screws?
Thanks for confirming Ralphs query re speaker removal, this no doubt would have been my next question.
I suppose if all else fails it will mean another trip to David Geralds!

can you get to the remaining fixings to remove one ( say off the passenger door) and take dimensions off it, that way you'll be able to source just the fixing and where it came from isnt important.

Take one of the fixing screws on the other side out as has already been said - pop along to an engineering supplies company or similar with it and they will sort you out I'm sure.
If all else fails let me know as one of my work colleagues parents owns a fasteners company and they will have them for sure.
Also get some thread locking compound to put on the screw threads to stop the new screws falling out with the vibration.
