£2000 ono buys you an S with new outriggers???

My first thought was....ah, but the outriggers will need doing and the paint will be rubbish. But both have been re-done. Looks a bargain to me with only minor problems to sort. If that came for £1800 that has to be a bargain if there arent any surprises?

(No, not to me - was local though, so I would have investigated)
As far as I can see that does seem to be the entry point for something rough, decent S1s seem to start at about £3,750 and S3s at around £4.5k. S3Cs and mint cars £5k+, anything over £6k would have to be a recent and very comprehensive rebuild or maybe a decent S4C.

£4,500 for a decent S3. Good luck finding one for this money !

..as for cars costing more than £6,000 .... needing a comprehensive rebuild.
Hmmm, not sure if you will find one of those either.
Think you may have to pay a little more just for an average motor.

By decent I mean usable, not a show car.
Of the S's in the PH classifieds, only two V6s are significantly over £5k and they're both S3Cs (as opposed to an S3).

No objection to paying more, but it would have to be something that justifies the extra outlay and I haven't seen a mint example for any price yet, people seem to be keen to hang on to them.

Sorry you have not seen a mint example but as said before, some of these cars are now 15-17 year old.
They will all need some money spent on them !
But as you say, maybe the owners of the mint ones are not selling... and if they were perhaps feel
their cars are worth more than the prices you are seeing on here

Oh yes - can vouch for the broad 'village idiot' grin they induce. I knew from the moment I saw the first one it was an S I wanted. Not convinced I've found the right one just yet though.
No objection to paying a representative (and yes, higher) price for a really good one, but it would have to be a substantially better car than the majority to jusitfy a higher price than the majority!

Just in case anyone has read it that way, let me assure you I was not describing any of the S's on sale here or elsewhere as 'dogs' or anything along those lines. I haven't even seen most of them...
The comment was purely to highlight that some cars were being sold for rather more than others and if (as I presume is the case) the bulk are of a good standard, then the more expensive ones would have to be even better. They may well be.
If I've been a little indiscreet about the ones I have seen then I'm sorry, but any comments for better or for worse were purely down to my views on those I've looked at and not any others.
Unfortunately, contrary to the suggestions that I am 'not the sort of person who should be buying a TVR' I am still utterly smitten with the design of the S and indebted to those people who have lent their advice. So, I'm afraid you're stuck with me.
