Flexible brake hoses

I rang Brakes International today http://www.brakesint.co.uk (though a number of differnent URL's get you to the same site) about the flexible brake hoses on my V8S.

For info he said that anything ford unless its old stuff has 10mm 1.0 pitch thread on the brake hoses. He said thats the thread where they screw into the caliper so thats a useful test I guess.

The length of the flexible brake hoses quoted excludes the threaded part at the end - its the length of the hose, metal crimped bit and the thickness of the nut that is quoted.

I am undecided about braided hoses - my concern is not now but in a few years when it is impossible to see what condition the rubber hose is in.

Anyway I'm going to measure my hoses tonight and ring him again tomorrow.

The guy there was very helpful, and their hoses seem pretty cheap too.

hi chris if yours are the same as my s2 the rears are 3/8 unf and are from a sunbeam avenger 09/73 to 10/82 lucas/trw part no phc138 and the fronts are 10mm mine are 370 mm long in total and are from a ldv pilot 04/89 to 03/96 lucas/trw part no pha 313 hope this helps ken

I think they will be different Ken as I have discs on the back.
I have all hoses off now anyway - so I can try them in the caliper thread to see it they are 10x1.0 thread.

If you have UNF fittings they will screw into the front calipers ok but will feel a bit sloppy. You'll need to compare the fit to a known 10mm fitting, eg the one that came out of the caliper, to see/feel the difference. Like Ken the fittings on mine are all metric except the rear flexi hoses.

Chris I got a braided set from rally design,6 lines, £46 + vat I think, cheaper than trade quote (friend who works in a tyre & exhaust firm), they did a set for the S3, maybe they will do a set for a V8s ?

PS make some templates for your seat belt brackets to confirm that the angles are correct, they are reversed engineered for mine and may need tweeking for yours.
