Just curious what age most peoples cars are and how many miles they have clocked up... Are there any with stellar mileages floating around?

(Only seen it on paper so far and it's not that high at 90,000 or so)

When I was in the market for one I saw a V8S with > 100k although the speedo had not worked for "a couple of months" (there was an item on one of the service invoices from about 18 months earlier along the lines of "investigate speedo fault" )

Seemed very solid however (although a short while later, and somewhat true to form, I took the why-pay-less option and bought a 39k miler)

Mine was built in '93 and some bits have done about 170k miles, most of the expensive bits have done far less.

It seems the V8's recieve the most use. I guess you can't help covering a lot of miles if you put your foot down in one.

Are there any high-mileage problems associated with the Cologne engine? From what I've heard elsewhere the internals (particularly on the 2.9) should be capable of very high mileages (it's still used as a pickup engine in the states apparently!)

I stripped my Cologne engine down after around 80,000 miles and found almost NO wear. The shells and the bores looked new. The only problem I had was that the sump had rotted through and the core plugs were looking a little iffy (rusty).
