Some of you will know I decided to take my car into RT Racing to have a full chassis treatment. Having done it myself before I know what a git of a job it is and hard, if not impossible to get to all the bits that matter without professional equipment.
I have already been under the car several times so I knew it was solid.....
Yesterday I got the dreaded call saying the body mounts where badly corroded and I gave the go ahead to replace them. 10 minutes later-another call "think you better come down and see this"
Cutting out the body mounts revealed the top of both outriggers where where as holy as hell. Full replacement job the only way forward.
I'm actually not as bothered as I thought as I love that car and now I will have complete confidence in it and plan to keep it for a while, but the moral of the story is you never really know the state of the riggers unless you do a partial/full body lift or expose the mounts (dont mean to scare anyone) I spent a long time checking that car and poking around with a screwdriver and "thought" it was 100% solid.

Grant, sorry to hear about your chassis not being what you first thought, there is a lesson there for us all, ie no matter how good it all looks you will never really know what the chassis is like until it is too late.
your old car is doing fine i have found the odd small patch of flaking paint on the chassis but it is all superficial, anyway good luck with the body off chassis restoration, are you doing it yourself or are you getting it done for you ?

RT Racing in Sheffield are doing it for me, I'd like to have a go myself but I really haven't the time. When I finished I'm likely to have spent the best part of £1500, that is full outrigger replacement and a very comprehensive chassis treatment. Genuinely pleased the S3 is is still going good, hope to see at at Chatsworth Sunday 27th April?
Looks like I'm not the only one going through a full body off at the minute so that eases the burden in a selfish way!
