S3 CHROME HEADLIGHT RIM REPLACEMENT

Hi guys, I was happily cruising back form Leeds to Manchester today along the M62 when my passenger side headlight rim decided to leave the car at 90mph+, I'm not sure if it's now embedded in the radiator of some unfortunate person behind but it has taken it's leave from my S3 for sure!!! Can some one please inform me of the correct replacement part and where I can get one, the old girl looks a bit squinty eyed at the moment!

you need to make a small 90 degree tab for the bottom of the ring so that it can be secured to the bonnet.

I made mine from a short flat length (about an inch) of stainless steel jubilee clip, drill two holes about half an inch apart on the centreline. One is to rivet to the headlamp rim, the other is for the securing screw. Bend the tab somewhere between the holes approx 90 degrees (position will be dictated by the position of the hole in the rim) I then rivetted the tab to the outside of the rim and then screwed thew whole lot in place (space is limited between the bottom of the rim and the bodywork so you might need to fettle the tab a bit to fit)

hope that helps, I could do photos if you need, and I think TVRgit diaried this some time ago (could be wrong about that)

Would it be easier to bend it first then drill the holes - otherwise it might try to bend where the hole is?

Thanks, i misunderstood your post, I thought that they could provide the rings with the tab allready attached...looks like I'll have to get the tools out then :-)

I replaced the whole lot including bowls, lenses and rings, all of which were ordered from S V C. The rings clipped into place and didn't require any tabs fixing. They were still firmly in place when I sold the car 18 months later.
