Roof cleaning or dying

Hello chaps,

In the next few weeks I would like to tidy up a few bits. The easiest of which I am hoping will be cleaning the roof fabric. It is very tidy and in good condition it just has a few stains on it that I dont think will come off. Is there a product about that can be applied to the fabric to re-blacken it? Or what other options are open to me. If all else fails I can live with it, its just nive to get it all tidy.

Hi Pete, try this hood reviver http://www.vertar.com/renovo/ . I've applied it several times using a small (gloss paint) roller and was pleased with the outcome. I'd would, however, suggest cleaning it first. I haven't tried the cleaner, but I've read that normal shampoo is good, apparently it doesn't contain any nasty chemicals. HTH

If you do a search in this or the General TVR forum you'll find plenty of info.

Other makes to look out for are Renovo and Fabseal. One thing I know from reading other threads is to clean the roof thoroughly (e.g. use a stiff brush) and let it dry completely before treating. When applying the colour apply evenly and quickly so you do not get any lines.

This is something I'll be doing to my roof this spring so let me know how you get on

Pete, just to add that I purchased mine (Renove) from a local Saab dealership, part No. 8890055, but that was @10 years ago, so I don't know if they'll still stock. But, if they do it and you've one close by it will save you on P+P.

I used Renevo and was very pleased. Make sure you do it in one go or you can get a line a bit like a water mark.

I've used Renovo (black) four times over the years with excellent results.
I then waterproof it with Fabsil, which lasts about 2-3 years (car garaged).

I see the Renovo is available in 500 ml bottles. How much would you expect to use (First time my roof has ever been treated I think) will one bottle be enough?

I had the 500ml and didn't use all of it on my old S3, it does go quite far. Don't forget to mask around the rear folding roof section when applying, runs do come off but you have to rub hard with a damp cloth. A bit of advise: always do the full hood in one go, I did mine in two lots the 1st attempt and somehow ended up on 2 shades of blue?
