Looking nearly like a car

Hi all,

LSD diff in, now I need brake / fuel lines and handbrake cable - nearly forgot an engine - sunday it goes in. I feel like Im starting to get there. I had more trouble with the T 40 bolts on the diff, one head snapped off in the bolt - I accidently picked up a normal head instread of the extra toughened one. As I accidently drilled through the CV joint rubber last time, therefore I went directly for the chisel, slipped and went through the new rubber. I was abolutely furious with myself, eventualy I got it out, I have removed all of them and they will be replaced with allen heads. Anyway enough of my moaning.

Sean buy the torx drivers from machine mart - the impact ones about £29 worth every penny, they make the job dead simple.
Cheaper than half a dozen driveshaft rubbers

That is superb. Dream of doing something like that on mine, but the chassis seems sound and it looks like an awful lot of work.

How many hours just to strip and paint all that?

Hi V8S,

Timing for me - Barkychoc is in the same boat as me, Kenpage and mep12345 are drawing their project to an end.

10 hrs to remove body (should be 6 - I did not know what I was doing)
16 hrs to strip to chassis
Shot blast £90
Welding and dressing 10 hrs (my chassis was shocking to say the least)
I painted by hand POR 15 silver then black 10 hrs
Spray Tie sealer (seals the paint off) 2 hrs
2 coats red 4 hrs
Hand painting shafts / knuckles / rack / tank / - small parts 2 coats 8 hrs
Now I am at the reassembly stage and engine goes in Sunday.
Doing it part time is going to take me 4 months - if all goes well.

Cost including engine work will run about 2K, my estimate to get a good running chassis was less than 1K and I have not stopped yet, I am seriously thinking of silicon water pipes approx £170, unless I can find a cheaper option and I may have to look at making up a set as my engine is a Cosworth 24v and Im not sure if the engine water inlets / outlets are the same.

sean ive just got to start mine and put the seats in and the bonnet on,ive been lazy this week as i need a new battery and have not bought one yet ill get it tomorrow,it turns over but only just, had fun with the alarm and immob and the second immob but they seem sorted now i hope,starter was buggered so that had to be changed (2,8 granada for reference) so if it starts i will be making more noise than the car watch this space,the brakes and the clutch bled up so easy there is a rock solid brake pedal and a healthy tension on the clutch judging from what i have read on here something must be wrong time will tell

Engine in - A few scratches here and there which will need repainting.




I did'nt manage to get the brakes or fuel lines in, so that will get done during the week. The rad goes off to be recored in Cheltenham monday. Slowly getting there.

Sean, looking really great. I welded the other seat belt mount on today.
Both sides had holes in the rear tubes under the rear seat belt mount, the crap really collects there quite badly. By the time you've scraped the corrosion off there's not much left!

What did you use to clean the engine? (V8 is alloy as well).
I've bought some acid aluminium cleaner from machine mart and tried a little bit on the diff which did seem to do a good job.
Haven't tried any more yet.
