Which Unleaded ?
Discussion
Hello All,
Just got back from a fortnight in france - much zooming in the S. Only the one speeding ticket so not to bad
. Thanks to everyone who gave loads of advice before going (particularly RudeGirl). The car behaved perfectly and was a lot of fun - lots of roof down, back roads, low gears and engine noise
!
Now - different question for you ? What unleaded fuels are you running your S on - and what are the pro's and con's ? Being a tight arsed g*t I'm currently on bog standard 95 RON.
Regards,
WG

Texaco and Shell, which are usually touted as having the best coctail of additives (detergents, etc). I've tried Optimax, but there's no improvement.
Last time I put Esso in the S2, I had major problems as it was mostly water!

Unbelievable - you get onto a back road, with some rolling country side where you can see for miles and the road's curving all over the place (and not that wide) - and you can just hammer it - every corner - knowing there's nothing coming the other way
I went out to get some bits and bobs one lunch time, everything was shut, got a bit lost (honest) and didn't reappear for 3 hours. Superb !! Me bird didn't even remotely believe me

Yeah - that's the thing. The engine just sounds a little bit "hairy" for want of another word (it has done 87k after all). I was wondering if some fuels sounded better or gave noticeably more power. The only time I tried 98 RON (admittedly in a Peugeot) I couldn't detect any difference at all.
For road driving I think you will get all the performance you need from regular unleaded BUT at all cost avoid supermarket fuel, it does not contain the additives/detergents etc that the s engine does neeed, glad the French trip was good, I want to take mine but I have a peninsular S/s exhaust systym wich is very low and I am convinced I am going to loose the lot either loading or unloading from the ferry!

Hmmm - don't generally use supermarket fuel here (certainly did in france) - usually Shell or BP. Don't use Esso on principal. Re: the exhaust, we went Hoverspeed from Newhaven on the Seacat (very quick) - had no problem with the clearance - the gangway manouevre was fine - and the welded motorbike fixings on the floor are no more than an inch or so high (ring them to check I guess) and you should be able to stear so that the exhaust doesn't get them. Grounded (at speed) on some of the more undulating roads which was a bit odd.
There is an unleaded section in the S bible and a TVR FAQ on my website. That will tell you.
