Air Con in an S
Discussion
Has anyone tried to get air con fitted in an S?
I love having the roof down but that stilldoesnt cool down my tootsies and legs.
The Air vents either blow out hot air or super heated gas and I was just wondering if there was a way of getting a good ventilation system fitted.
Also I'm getting a slight singular pop when under hard acceleration. Any idea's? Small hole in the exhaust? Or is it something to do with the slight flat spot at 1500 revs.
Thanks in advance.

Don't know if anyone has fitted AC to an S but I would think there was sufficient room under the bonnet to get Compressor etc. in but I wonder if it would be worth it, probably talking of four figures? and an increase in petrol consumption.
I found on my S that one of the 2" flexible air inlets that should have connected to the spigot on the bonnet front valance had come adrift, now that its reconnected I get a good directional blast of ambient air.
Have you checked yours?, the one on the drivers side where it passes the battery had also over the years been compressed down in size, once replaced it also is fine.
With the amount of heat given off from the centre consol (the exhausts being underneath) I dont think we can ever get saloon car comfort - after all it is a TVR

I wonder if your heater valve/bypass valve may not be stuck open if you are "hoofing in hot air"
On my S2 and I'm guessing they all are the same, the vents left and right of the dashboard bring in ambient air (whatever it is outside) in via the flexible pipes from the front, at the speed you quoted, the entering air temperature directed onto your skin (say face)should have dropped your skin temperature by about 5 degrees giving a cooling effect, prove this by sticking your hand out of the side window and it will feel cooler.
It sounds like the vents directed to your feet(under the dash) are pumping in hot air via the heater that has hot water passing through it.
You correctly say that condensation forms on the windows and this would be right if the inside temperature was slightly lower than outside.
Check out the valves and the vents.
Agreed leather seats are not good for keeping cool.
(OK you AC engineers out with the Psychrometric charts)
Apologies for getting long winded.
Keep cool !!!
