Have just picked up the 'S'in the middle of its service. The upgraded brakes I've sourced don't fit, but everything else is done. On the drive back at any speed above 55mph the steering wheel is shimmying as if the wheels are out of balance. I have checked the wheel nut torques and the wheels/tyres have not been changed.

The front suspension bushes have been changed as well as the two top ball joints. The old brakes came off before the parts error was discovered and have now gone back on (disks were warped when the car went in for service).

The whole reason for collecting the car was to take it to MANIA but unless anyone has a sugestion as to what is causing this then it will have to stay at home. I don't want to think what damage(£££) could be done on a 300 mile round trip.

Hi Emma .. hope to see you and Kevin tomorrow after all .. three all-night sessions this week have got all the cars out already so I'm free for the weekend, will probably come over for the last two or three hours, will bring the OZ wheels with me.
Brakes : bugger about that one maybe what you got wasn't actually XR4i stuff after all .. I know that goes on in one easy movement cos I used to have an XR4i, and kept the brakes, they're now on the S so they do go on, honestly ...!
Best wishes, see you Saturday

HI Julian,

Do you think this 'wobble' will present problems in driving up to MANIA tomorrow?? - will I do any damage? Don't really want to build up more of a bill/ future problems, than necessary!!!! It tracks a straight line even when the steering wheel wobbles at its' worst!!

Will see you tomorrow........maybe have to be in the Chimp

I would suggest that provided you drive with care and brake early for everything then there should not be a significant risk. After all nothing has happened thus far.

However, if it is a serious wobble and going all over the road leave it at home.

The other point is, would you really enjoy driving all that way with a problem in the back of your mind. Take some pics of it and go in the chimp, He may let you have a drive!

Good Luck.

Gadgit.

Went in the Chimp!! Fitted all 4 S wheels in Chimp (to Swap) for the drive up and returned with 6 wheels & two tyres!!! The wonders of that car never cease to amaze me

Had great couple of hours - saw Mr Sheen's V8S.... same colour combination as ours.....only immaculate! Cars never left the factory in as good a condition as this!

Hi Pies,

It's a shame that you couldn't make it today. We arrived late due to taking time out to put the S on axel stands and remove the wheels. We now have 6 x 8 spoke wheels, albeit only two have tyres. We are going to send the wheels off to be refurished and then the car is heading back to David Batty's place to have the braking system we wanted fitted.

Mr sheens's car is Mica blue like both of our's but the interior is Mag rather than your doe-skin. He had a wonderful alloy bonnet stay, all shiny and gorgeous. Unfortunately he didn't fit it himself so doesn't know where it came from. You could eat your dinner off his chassis. I think all the waxoil on mine would spoil the taste!!!

Didn't know you were in to Caterhams....is it yours?Hope your S is going well.

The caterhams belong to ....caterham,30 PHers went to Brooklands thrashing them around a slalom circuit an absolute hoot.Lots of sideways movement doughnuts etc

Would have been better if it rained though even more sideways cant wait to book for next one:

My S is running very well (touch everything wooden)thank you but i get very hot in this weather.

Why 6 wheels : mines only got 4

I must say without doubt it is the best condition S around, as you say I'm sure they didn't leave the factory quite as good.
Hats off to him, even came over to see if my tatty one was alright after it thru' the auxillary belt at 120mph, half way down the straight and proceeded to boil over a few seconds later and I coasted back to the 'pits' steaming a bit. I think I actually coasted for about 1.5 miles, do you think thats a record !!!!!!!!
Did you also see the 'corvette' V8S, looks very nice in the flesh I thought.
