Have you joined the TVR-CAR-CLUB?

Just wondered how many of you have become members to the TVR Car Club, and if you feel it's worth the money??

I would like to join up, but they do ask for a big fee..

Hi,

I was a member for a year or so before I bought my S3 in 1999. I didn't renew it a few years ago but in fairness to the club I don't see what they could do to make it any better. The SPRINT magazine is always excellent. There are usually good stories in there. Also, plenty of membership events and vehicles for sale.

Give it a go for a year, see what you think.

My brother and I were members for years, until I actually got a TVR and never remember to renew. There's always something else the £30-odd quid can go to.

And there's plenty of things happening outside the club to not really feel like I'm missing out.

Although this website gives you all of the info you could ever need on events/servicing/parts etc I still enjoy Sprint and think that for £2.50 a month membership is worthwhile. And don't forget that you can save way more than the membership fee by taking advantage of the discounts available

Buy a raffle ticket at S Club and you could win £50 from the TVRCC - that will more than cover your membership fee

I joined about the time I bought my car. If you're sure you're going to get one I would recommend it - I placed a wanted ad in Sprint and the week after I bought mine it went into print and I got innundated with offers. I honestly had more people contact me as a result of that ad, than I'd spoken to in several months of scouring the classifieds.

Otherwise, well it's the usual car club fayre - local meets, bigger events, driving tours etc. It is however rather more polished - they have a very well produced (award winning!) club magazine and quite a comprehensive shop.

And now the factory is no more they are the only official central reference point for archives, model build numbers and the like so should be supported if you have any feelings for the marque.

It shouldn't be only "what do I get out of this for my £30"

Its a bigger picture than that.

I reckon it's worth it for the magazine. Everything else is a bonus.

I just wondered as most clubs don't charge that much, or charge at all!

Agreed, it's worth joining. It's the only official voice that we have and whilst it may have had some issues (haven't we all at some time?) it is good.

Its worth joining, the discount on insurance might more than cover the cost. We need a corporate voice soemwhere, pistonheads is great but its all volentary!! And dont forget if you pay peanuts you get monkeys

I just put the subscription down as another expense of owning a car.

Don't forget that the subscription gets you a full colour Monthly magazine that would probably cost £2+ in the shops.

The club also ensures that the name of TVR is still in the car media. National classic car shows always have a large TVR presence. The regional ones are attended and have stands done by the local regional groups. The Blackpool branch will probably be at 4 or 5 small car and general transport shows on the Fylde coast this year as well as a good turnout at the two large Tatton Park shows. Subscriptions are used to pay for banners and marques for the regional clubs.

Also I dread to think how much time and money was spent on organising both 'Back Home 06' and Rockingham last year. For 'Back Home' there were numerous meetings with Blackpool Council, Police, Health and Safety etc as the 2day get together was held in public areas that had to be controlled and closed off to ensure safety when the cars were doing speed runs.

As others have said TVRCC has won awards for the magazine and stands at shows , 'Back Home 06' I think won an award for Best Car Club meeting.

I joined and was only disappointed at the lack of activity on the S - Forum, but I guess its on here or on there and theres no point in adding the same stuff to both...

If this forum was on the TVRCC site then it would be "complete" in my eyes. (said with genuine apologies to PH)

I think sprint is great and the wider TVR stuff is interesting and the regional stuff essential... I renewed my membership this year without question...

Exactly as I see it. As an added bonus make sure you mention to your insurance company that you are a member and some of them give you discout. I was with Classicline and I think they gave me around £25.00 off.

its a good club & the magazine is good. I save more on my insurance from A.Manning than the cost of the subs, so it pays for itself

I've been in the TVRCC since I bought the S which is a few years ago. Sprint is excellent and pretty well worth the subs by itself and there are plenty of events going on with the local lot; some are TVR related and others social. I've made some good friends and met some nice people as well nearly all of whom are prepared to help with any issues - overall well recommended - and to be honest if you own a TVR and can't afford the subs for the club well .... If you don't want to join for other reasons that's up to you though!
Final thought - any club is only as good as the people in it and someone has to do the work for the others so, if you can, get involved now and then even in a small way.

I would definitely recommend membership of the TVRCC. It's the easiest way to meet other enthusiasts in your area and you'll get to take part in some cracking regional and national events. Owning a TVR would still be fun, but club membership definitely makes it more enjoyable for me.
