First time out in an S!!!!

So i thought I'd go and view the one I was on about, the green 1990 S3 with 86000 miles, little bit tatty, and he wants 3.5k for it.
So I went to see it and I really liked the look of it, those pictures didn't do it justice at all. The fellow doesn't want to get rid of it but says he needs to really because he wants to move to New Zealand and he can't take it with him and he either wants a chimara or a 911. Anyway he suddenly asks me: 'would you like a ride?'
I obviously said yeah of course! So he moves his everyday car out the way and parks it around the corner. He then returns and we get in and he starts her up. Cor. Nice noise. We pull out his drive and I could feel the back end wanting to shift a little. Not driving very fast but you could see people looking at the, mainly because of the noise.
We go out into some country roads and once into the 60 limit pushes the gas and holy cow. It was absolutly screaming. Much louder than i thought it would be. It spluttered and banged as he changed gear or came off the gas. Went into town again, heading for the duel carriage way with a 70 limit. Went round the big roundabout with tones of traffic lights and tell you what: everybody was looking at this car! We went round and finally to the duel and WOW!!! even more gas. Absolutly deathining growl and scream! AHHH I couldn't beleive a car could be THIS loud? You couldn't even talk, you had to shout to each other to be heard in it. I couldn't believe it.
So...I'm saying I don't think this car looks much. It's not the most comfortable. But it's got more soul than anything i've ever been in!

They do tend to be a bit loud but some more so than others; mine was almost respectable when it had the cats on but not as quiet now and does sound better!! There are exhausts about from various suppliers (some are sports, etc) which will no doubt sound different - they are all nice anyway so no probs ..!! The only downer is the very loud ones can be a bit of a pain if you're doing a lot of motorway driving but then get on the side roads ..

The car that Orophin went out in belongs to one of my best friends. It was also the car that gave me my first experience in a TVR. All I can say is that the noise alone was enough to convince me and within a month I had one of my own ! I have to say that mine is somewhat civilised compared to his.... that thing is like a Nascar when it's floored!
May I start by congratulating you on reviving the phrase 'holy cow'.Glad you enjoyed it. If you're going to get one speak to Hagerty - you won't believe the quotes you get. I mean that in a good way I should add. They're the main reason I can afford to run a TVR.
Have a look at plenty. Make sure the chassis is sound. Engines are plentiful Ford lumps, but obviously keep an eye out for any issues. Bare in mind that a car with a few cosmetic blemishes (you'll struggle to find an original one that's perfect...) but has a sound chassis is far better than a fresh re-spray and re-trim with a chassis made of cheese.
