Holland & back in my V8s. Toolkit help

Going in July.
Got the usual stuff, belt, spare leads general tools, fuses and plugs etc.

What other items can anyone recommend?

I am thinking relays given the problems I've read about here, but what is the pump relay and what will my local factors know it as?

I would add a hose repair kit - cost about £4 and they do work on a "get you home basis"

I'm no mechanic but I bought one of those powerful jump start things with a light and tyre blower upper. Sounded useful. Maybe the tyre inflator in a can too?

If you are really concerned, mobile phone at least and laptop with right mobile connection capability to internet so you can ask PH if it goes proper awry.

But, really it'll be fine but best be prepared etc. Have a good trip

Common Failures
These are the most common failures which appear on Pistonheads. The parts above should cover most of them.

Fan Belt Failure
40 amp fan fuse blows or otter-switch gives up
100 amp alternator fuse goes
Coil or HT Lead degrades

Bring a few meters of electric wire, some spade crimp terminals (male and female), inline fuseholders and scotchlocks. These can be used to bridge faulty relays, switches, connectors, earth and so on. Electric wire can be used as string. Copper wire being heat resistant it can even be used to repair broken exhaust mounts, and if you go camping it serves as a washing line.

I also always take ....
1. some Autoglym Fastglass with me on long trips to clean the windscreen at each fuel stop - the wipers / washer jets on my S2 just make it a smeary mess!
2. a small canister of spare fuel, especially useful in rural areas of France etc on a Sunday evening (don't ask me how I know.....!)
3. a colour copy of driving license - rather hand that over than the original in case you never see it again

Some great ideas here thanks, I've just bought myself a huge waterproof bag, a non slip mat and some luggage ties to fashion my own "Boot- Bag". My only worry now is whether the suspension will cope with all that extra load over the rear of the car. we are planning on putting all the camping gear inside.

Don't forget there's a lot of space on the outside of the passenger's footwell. Keeps the weight forward too.

when I saw the Chimeara list I thought "you're kidding?"

but then read through the list and see that I actually already carry 99% of that list plus the hose bandage and some odd hoses and tyre seal (as I dont carry a spare) and a coil

surprised me to see it listed like that
